Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has said he does not see himself spending his retirement in Nigeria, explaining that travelling abroad has given him a clearer picture of the differences between Nigeria and other countries.

Although he still considers Nigeria home, the rapper believes there is a lot the country needs to improve, particularly when it comes to the standard of living. For him, the energy of Nigerians and their determination to survive remain some of the country's strongest qualities, even with the difficulties many people face daily.

Blaqbonez acknowledged that life in Nigeria can be demanding, but said the country still has a unique atmosphere that is difficult to overlook. He pointed to the hustle mentality of Nigerians as something that continues to stand out, even when compared with life elsewhere.

“Nigeria is hectic, but it is still home. When you go to other countries, you will realise how far we are from where we should be. But the vibe and energy are still there. There is a hustle spirit that comes with being Nigerian. I really wish the country was better.

“I don't want to spend the rest of my life living in Nigeria. I don't think that there is any successful person who wants to live in Nigeria after retirement. Maybe there are some people. But the way I picture my retirement is living in a big.....”

His comments reflect the contrast he sees between the determination of Nigerians to make ends meet and the kind of comfortable life he hopes to enjoy in the future.

For Blaqbonez, travelling has also influenced how he views the country. Experiencing other environments has allowed him to compare the opportunities and living conditions available elsewhere with what Nigerians have at home.

While he recognises the appeal of Nigeria, he appears to have a different picture in mind for his later years. Rather than continuing to deal with the pressures that come with everyday life in the country, he would prefer a retirement that offers him a different pace of living.

The rapper's comments also touch on a wider question about what people want for themselves after years of working to build successful careers. For many, retirement means having the freedom to choose where to live, how to spend their time and what kind of environment they want around them.

Blaqbonez has made it clear that, in his case, Nigeria is not where he currently imagines spending the rest of his life. However, his comments also show that his preference for living abroad does not mean he has lost his appreciation for the spirit and energy of Nigerians.
