Nollywood actress and politician Hilda Dokubo has made a statement about her political position following her recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt.

The actress's visit to Wike has raised questions about where she stands politically, particularly as preparations and discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue. Given her previous involvement in Labour Party politics and her support for Peter Obi, some have wondered whether the meeting signals a change in her political direction.

However, Dokubo appears unwilling to have her political decisions interpreted based on a single meeting. She has maintained that she has not joined any coalition and has not made a commitment to belong to one.

In her words:

“I do not belong to any coalition, I have not pledged to belong to any coalition. I’m too big and individual and a representative of our people to be pushed out of the window. I’ll walk through that door, majestically as I am and I’ll announce my arrival myself”.

Her choice of words suggests that she wants to maintain her independence and make her political decisions without being assigned to any political group. She also appears to be making it clear that if she decides to associate with a political platform or movement, she intends to make that decision publicly and on her own terms.

Dokubo is not new to Nigerian politics. In September 2022, she declared her intention to contest for the Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the Labour Party. Her ambition was driven by her desire to represent her people at the National Assembly.

She has also continued to hold a position within the Labour Party. On April 28, 2026, she was elected National Women Leader of the party at its national convention in Umuahia, Abia State.

Her political background makes the questions surrounding her recent meeting with Wike particularly interesting. Nevertheless, a visit to a political figure does not automatically mean that someone has joined that person's political camp.

For now, there is no confirmed announcement that Dokubo has joined Wike's Rainbow Coalition, nor has she officially declared her intention to contest for an elective position in 2027.

Her latest statement leaves room for questions about what direction she may take politically, but she has made her immediate position clear that she does not want anyone announcing her political allegiance on her behalf.
