Life after Big Brother Naija is not as easy as some people might think, and Season 11 housemate Flora is already feeling the pressure that comes with being in the public eye.
Since appearing on the reality show, Flora has had to deal with expectations about how she should look, dress and live. However, she wants people to understand that becoming a BBNaija housemate does not automatically mean she has the money or possessions associated with celebrity life.
In a video, Flora spoke candidly about her concerns, making it clear that she does not want people to judge her financial situation or mock her if they see her going about her daily activities without the lifestyle they expect from someone who has appeared on television.
“I dey warn una now, I no follow una do celebrity life oo. So, I won't be walking one day on the road with my black trouser, and you people will take picture of me, saying, ‘This girl is s&ffering.’ I beg you all in the name of God.
“I don't have a car or house. I no follow una dey live big girl life. Even the everyday photoshoots, I’m already tired", she said.
Flora's concern is that people may begin to measure her success by what she owns rather than allowing her the time to build her life at her own pace. While some may expect her to start living like an established celebrity immediately after the show, she insists that her reality has not changed overnight.
She also made it clear that she does not want people bringing up her appearance on BBNaija whenever they see her living an ordinary life.
“I no won hear say, ‘This girl been dey do...’ I no do big girl for the house. Na so I dey for real life oo. You all should wait for me to get to that level first.
“Before I go dey waka for road, and they go come chakam me, saying, ‘This girl go Big Brother, and so?"
Her comments highlight the expectations that can follow contestants after they leave the BBNaija house. For many viewers, appearing on the show can create the impression that a housemate has suddenly become wealthy or should be able to afford an expensive lifestyle.
But Flora wants people to understand that being recognised as a reality TV personality does not mean she has already achieved every financial goal she hopes to reach.
She also admitted that adjusting to celebrity life has been tiring, especially with the pressure to keep up appearances.
“Celebrity life e no easy. No be me sing am. Who don dey since, he talk am say e no easy. I just dey enter the celebrity life and I don tire.”
For Flora, the priority is having the space to grow without being judged for what she does or does not own. Rather than pretending to live a life she has not yet achieved, she wants people to accept her as she is while she works towards her goals.
Her message is simple: appearing on BBNaija is one thing, but building a successful life after the show takes time. She wants that journey to happen without unnecessary pressure to prove herself through material possessions.
