Nigerian actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has unveiled the release date for the highly anticipated sequel to his Yoruba epic movie, Jagun Jagun, announcing that the new instalment, titled Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors, will premiere on Netflix on December 4, 2026.
The filmmaker made the announcement on social media on Sunday night, October 11, through a teaser that offered viewers a glimpse into the world of the upcoming production.
The short clip also hinted at the continuing power of a feared figure whose influence appears to remain strong even in his absence.
Accompanying the video, Femi Adebayo shared a message suggesting that the battle for dominance and the fear surrounding powerful warriors would remain central to the sequel.
“Even in his absence, his name remained a curse whispered behind closed doors. Some men are made by war, others are the reason kingdoms learn to fear it,” he wrote.
The announcement quickly generated excitement among entertainment personalities and fans, with several of Adebayo’s colleagues taking to the comment section to express their anticipation.
Actor Kunle Remi reacted enthusiastically, suggesting that Femi Adebayo was already making waves with the announcement before audiences had fully recovered from previous developments.
Fellow actor Kolawole Ajeyemi also hinted at the scale of what viewers could expect, while popular dancer Kaffy welcomed the news with a brief expression of excitement.
Actress Mercy Aigbe and comedian Cute Abiola equally joined the conversation, adding to the growing reactions surrounding the forthcoming release.
The sequel follows the success of the original Jagun Jagun, which arrived on Netflix on August 10, 2023. The first film tells the story of Gbotija, a determined young man who seeks to establish himself as a formidable warrior and joins the army of Ogundiji, a powerful and feared warlord.
Set against the backdrop of traditional Yoruba kingdoms, the film explores ambition, loyalty, warfare and the pursuit of power. Its storyline, elaborate costumes and battle sequences helped establish it as a notable production in Nigeria’s epic movie genre.
Produced by Femi Adebayo and directed by Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani, the original film featured several prominent Nollywood actors, including Lateef Adedimeji, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Yekini, Bukunmi Oluwasina, Bimbo Ademoye, Fathia Balogun, Muyiwa Ademola, Adebayo Salami and Mr Macaroni.
The production also earned recognition at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, winning Best Indigenous Language Movie, West Africa, and Best Costume Design.
Femi Adebayo has continued to strengthen his reputation as a filmmaker through Yoruba-language productions and historical dramas, including King of Thieves.
With Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors scheduled for December 4, audiences will have another opportunity to explore the film’s world of rivalries, powerful kingdoms and warrior traditions when the sequel arrives on Netflix.
