Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has apologised to her colleague, Laide Bakare, following her reaction to Bakare’s name during a recent podcast appearance, signalling a willingness to end their long-running disagreement.

Badmus issued the apology in a statement shared on her Instagram page on Tuesday, where she acknowledged that her response during her appearance on Isbae U’s Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast may have appeared dismissive.

The actress said she had reflected on the incident and recognised how her reaction could have been perceived by Bakare and members of the public.

Badmus Admits Her Reaction Was Dismissive

Addressing the controversy, Badmus wrote: “On reflection, I realise my reaction when Laide Bakare’s name was mentioned during my recent interview could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise.”

The apology came after a clip from the podcast went viral on social media and generated renewed discussions about the relationship between the two actresses.

During the interview, host Isbae U mentioned Bakare as one of his favourite actresses. Badmus responded by hissing and changing her facial expression, a reaction that quickly attracted attention online.

The moment prompted social media users to revisit the history between the actresses, whose disagreements have previously played out publicly.

‘I Choose Peace’

In her statement, Badmus directly addressed Bakare and expressed her desire to put their differences behind them.

“Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace and I genuinely wish you well.”

She also reflected on personal growth and the importance of learning from past experiences rather than allowing old disagreements to continue creating tension.

According to the actress, maturity can involve recognising when it is time to let go of grievances and move forward.

“We’re all growing, learning and becoming better versions of ourselves. Sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward,” she stated.

Badmus ended the message with another appeal for reconciliation, urging Bakare to put the disagreement behind them.

“Joo maa binu. No negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns.”

Her message represents a notable shift from the tension that has characterised their public interactions in recent years.

Their Disagreement Goes Back Years

The latest development comes against the backdrop of several disagreements between Badmus and Bakare.

One notable incident occurred in March 2024 when Badmus appeared to take a swipe at Bakare’s outfit during the latter’s book launch.

Bakare had attended the event in a white outfit complemented by an orange cape, which attracted reactions on social media. Badmus subsequently posted a comment that many interpreted as a reference to her colleague.

“Ewo ninu yin lo wo Aso Pastor Ajidara. Abeg who??”

Bakare later expressed disappointment over the criticism, questioning why some colleagues appeared more interested in highlighting her perceived shortcomings than celebrating her achievements.

She also questioned why Badmus had singled her out, while describing the actress as a childhood friend from their days at the University of Ibadan.

Heated Exchange At ‘Owambe Thieves’ Premiere

Their strained relationship resurfaced again in April 2025 during the Lagos premiere of Eniola Ajao’s film, Owambe Thieves.

Videos from the event circulated online and showed the actresses involved in a heated exchange.

Badmus was reportedly heard saying that the pair were not friends and asking that they should not be filmed together.

The incident further fuelled public interest in their relationship and added to the history of disagreements between the actresses.

Badmus Seeks An End To Hostility

With her latest statement, Badmus appears to be seeking a different direction, choosing reconciliation over continued public disagreement.

Her apology acknowledges the reaction that triggered the latest controversy while also making it clear that she does not want their past differences to continue creating negativity.

By telling Bakare that she chooses peace and wishes her well, Badmus has extended an olive branch to her colleague.

Whether the apology will lead to a complete reconciliation remains to be seen, but her message has clearly communicated a willingness to move forward and leave the disagreements of the past behind.
