Former Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas has apologised to actress Regina Daniels, her mother, Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko and several of his colleagues over comments he made during the actress’ reported marital crisis in 2025.
Rollas issued the apology in a statement shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, saying he had reflected on how he handled the situation and now believed that, despite his intentions at the time, he could have approached the matter differently.
The former AGN president had publicly commented on the reported crisis between Regina and Nwoko in November 2025, saying the actress needed help.
He also criticised some veteran actors whom he claimed had witnessed incidents involving Regina, while making comments concerning Rita Daniels, the AGN leadership contest and Nwoko’s position as chairman of the guild’s Board of Patrons.
Rollas Reflects On His Actions
Looking back, Rollas acknowledged that being convinced about an issue did not necessarily mean that his approach was appropriate.
He said he regretted making public comments while the family was dealing with what he described as a sensitive personal matter.
“Sometimes, with the passage of time, we look back at our actions and realise that being right about an issue does not necessarily mean we handled it the right way,” he said.
According to Rollas, a recent unexpected encounter with Rita Daniels gave him an opportunity to reconsider his actions.
He explained that some individuals had attempted to reconcile them during the encounter, prompting him to reflect further on the circumstances surrounding his earlier comments.
“A recent coincidental encounter with Mrs Rita Daniels, where some people tried to make peace between us, gave me another opportunity to reflect,” he said.
Apology To Regina And Nwoko
Following his reflection, Rollas extended his apology to Rita Daniels and her family, Regina Daniels, Senator Nwoko and his family.
He also apologised to the AGN Board of Trustees and several colleagues whom he mentioned in connection with the controversy.
Among those he named were Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji, Agility and Nazareth Jesse.
“I am sorry,” Rollas said.
The former guild president, however, made it clear that his apology was not dependent on whether the people involved accepted it.
‘I Am Not Proud Of How I Handled That Moment’
Rollas said he was offering the apology because he was no longer satisfied with how he dealt with the situation.
He stressed that those he apologised to had the right to decide whether they wanted to accept his apology.
“Whether or not anyone chooses to accept my apology is entirely their decision. I am making it because, after looking back, I am not proud of how I handled that moment,” he said.
While taking responsibility for his actions, Rollas noted that he still maintained some of the convictions he expressed during the controversy.
He explained that his current position was not necessarily a complete withdrawal of everything he had said at the time, but rather an acceptance that his approach and timing could have been different.
“I may still hold my convictions about some of the issues I raised then, but I take responsibility for my actions and my timing,” he said.
Rollas Calls For Peace
Rollas said he had decided to prioritise peace and move forward after reflecting on the events surrounding the controversy.
He also linked his experience to the responsibilities that come with leadership, saying leaders must be willing to acknowledge when they could have handled sensitive situations differently.
“Leadership is not only about having the courage to speak. It is also about having the humility to acknowledge when we could have spoken differently, waited longer, or chosen a better path,” he added.
His apology comes more than a year after his public comments concerning the reported marital crisis involving Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko.
Rollas’ statement focused on his reflection over the way he handled the matter and his decision to apologise to those he believed were affected by his remarks.
