Nigerian singer Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has paid an emotional tribute to his late son, Daniel Oyebanjo III, eight years after the family lost him in a tragic drowning incident.

The music star took to social media to reflect on his son’s life, sharing family photographs featuring himself, his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow, and Daniel.

In his message, D’banj described the late child as the family’s “star boy” and spoke about how much he continues to miss him. He also acknowledged the pain his wife may still carry, admitting that he could not imagine the full extent of her feelings following their loss.

The singer expressed gratitude for the lessons Daniel’s brief life taught him, adding that he believes his late son would be proud of the family and how far they have come.

“I miss you, Daniel D3rd, my son and trust me, I can’t imagine how your mother feels, but we are in a safe space now. Thank you,” he wrote.

D’banj continued by referring to Daniel as the special child of the family, while reassuring him that his parents and siblings were doing well.

“Omo Baba Eh, our family’s star boy.

“But thank you; I’m in a safe space, and so are your mother, brother, and sister. I’m sure you are proud of us.

“Thank you for showing me what life really is,” he added.

The singer also used the opportunity to send a message to another loved one he had lost, asking Daniel to say hello to his Uncle Femi.

“Say hi to your Uncle Femi.

“Tell him I miss him too.

“Daddy loves you specially, physically, spiritually, and powerfully,” he wrote.

The heartfelt tribute has brought renewed attention to the painful experience the singer and his family endured in June 2018, when they lost their son at the age of one.

Daniel drowned in a swimming pool at the family’s residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State. The incident occurred while his parents were away, according to reports at the time.

His death was met with widespread shock and sympathy, with fans, colleagues in the entertainment industry and members of the public expressing condolences to the couple.

The tragedy also brought attention to the devastating impact of losing a child, particularly for parents who had to navigate their grief under public scrutiny.

Although D’banj has continued his music career and public engagements over the years, he has occasionally spoken about the loss and the personal lessons it brought.

His latest message offers another glimpse into how he continues to remember Daniel, while also reflecting on the family’s journey since the tragedy.

By mentioning his wife and other children, the singer highlighted the importance of the family’s recovery and the safe space they have built for themselves despite the painful experience.

The tribute also shows that, for the family, Daniel remains an important part of their story, even years after his death. D’banj’s words combined expressions of longing, gratitude and love, as he remembered the son he described as their special star boy.

The singer’s message has once again drawn attention to a loss that deeply affected his family and touched many Nigerians when it happened.

Eight years after the incident, Daniel remains remembered by his parents, while D’banj’s tribute reflects the enduring place his son holds in his heart.
