Daniel Regha has criticised VeryDarkMan over the reported expenditure on mural paintings at the school project funded by Burna Boy, raising questions about how the donated money was spent and whether the project meets the standard expected of a school.
According to the allegations, VeryDarkMan reportedly spent about ₦50 million out of the ₦250 million donated by Burna Boy on mural paintings around the school. Regha questioned the decision to spend such a significant amount on artwork, particularly the repeated display of pictures of the singer and the social media activist within the school premises.
In his criticism, Regha argued that the project should prioritise facilities and an environment that support students' education rather than paintings that prominently feature the individuals associated with the initiative.
He said:
“VDM reportedly took about N50m out of the N250m provided by Burna to do unreasonab’e drawings, (mural painting to be exact) on the school project; And as if that’s not bad enough, he had the paintings of Burna, and himself repeatedly displayed around the school.”
Regha also questioned whether the reported spending was justified, drawing a comparison between the alleged expenditure and the misuse of public funds by government contractors and leaders. He argued that the use of money intended for a public-benefit project should be open to scrutiny, especially when the project is meant to provide educational opportunities for children.
He further questioned why pictures of Burna Boy and VeryDarkMan needed to appear repeatedly around the school if the intention was simply to honour the singer for his contribution.
Regha suggested that a commemorative plaque or a statue dedicated to Burna Boy would have been a more appropriate way to recognise the donation. In his view, the artwork within a school should contribute to its educational atmosphere rather than serve as a display of the people behind the project.
He said:
“Again, that’s N50m, so what makes him different from govt contractors and bad leaders who misuse public funds? And why is his picture and that of Burna there, if he wanted to honor Burna, do a simple commemorative plaque or a statue of Burna. School premesis should have artworks that relate to learning, not a means to glorify oneself.
“That school is also far from standard, the China he often goes to, is that how their schools look like? Will Burna himself allow his child school there in the future? So why call it standard.”
Beyond the reported cost of the murals, Regha questioned whether the school could reasonably be described as standard. He pointed to China, a country VeryDarkMan has reportedly visited frequently, as a point of comparison and asked whether the facilities resembled the kind of schools found there.
He also raised a question about whether Burna Boy would be comfortable sending his own child to the school in the future, using that as a way to challenge claims about the project's standard.
His criticism centres on two main issues: the reported amount spent on the paintings and the quality of the school itself. However, the claims about the expenditure and the school's standard remain allegations attributed to Regha and should not be treated as independently verified facts.
