Aliko Dangote has agreed to appear on Nigerian content creator Adebayo Ridwan’s YouTube show, Curiosity Made Me Ask, following an invitation from the comedian popularly known as Bae U.
The invitation came during a meeting between the two on Monday, when Bae U approached the billionaire businessman and asked him to make time for a conversation on his platform.
Explaining why he wanted Dangote on the show, Bae U pointed out that many of the billionaire’s interviews take place on platforms that do not necessarily appeal to younger Nigerians.
“You don’t have to stand; sit down, it’s fine. Most of the interviews we see you in are on platforms that my generation doesn’t watch. I think it’s high time we had the man with the biggest refinery on the biggest show on YouTube. Out of curiosity, when do you think we can have you on the show, sir?” he asked.
Dangote did not turn down the request. Instead, he agreed that people from his generation needed to engage more with young people, particularly when it came to sharing experiences and discussing the future of Nigeria and the African continent.
“Honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation, really, we have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That’s the truth,” Dangote said.
The businessman acknowledged that conversations between older and younger generations were important, adding that young people had a role to play in shaping what comes next.
He also agreed with Bae U’s point about reaching audiences through platforms they regularly use, suggesting that his future engagements should include more direct conversations with younger people.
“So we need to sit down with some of you and discuss our own experience with you. So really, you are right. Going forward, this sort of audience is the audience that we, somebody like me, should actually face,” he added.
Bae U’s invitation gives Dangote an opportunity to connect with viewers through a YouTube programme known for its question-and-answer format, where guests are asked questions in a casual setting.
The content creator has built a following through his interviews with public figures, using the show to ask questions that range from personal experiences to issues surrounding their careers and public lives.
For Dangote, an appearance on the programme would offer a different setting from the business interviews and formal engagements in which he is often featured.
When Bae U asked him directly when he would be available to come on the show, Dangote gave a short but positive answer.
“We will come,” he said.
Although no date for the interview was announced during the exchange, Dangote’s response indicates his willingness to take up the invitation.
If the appearance goes ahead, viewers could get to hear from the billionaire in a more informal conversation, with the opportunity for questions aimed specifically at a younger audience.
