Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has revealed his desire to collaborate with Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy, describing a potential joint effort with the Afrobeats star as an exciting musical prospect.
The rapper, known for his experimental approach to hip-hop and songs such as Chanel, made this known during a recent interview on The Zeze Millz Show. He said working with Burna Boy was something he would welcome, adding that he could already imagine the possibilities of their collaboration.
Blaqbonez also identified Burna Boy as one of the key influences behind the energy he has brought to his music this year, acknowledging the singer’s impact on his creative direction.
“I would love to collab with Burna Boy, that would be really fire. I can imagine it, it would just be super crazy. You know what is crazy? The energy I am on this year, a lot of it was inspired by him,” he said.
His comments have sparked interest in the possibility of the two Nigerian music stars joining forces, although no official collaboration has been announced.
Burna Boy’s Influence on Blaqbonez
Blaqbonez’s admiration for Burna Boy highlights the influence the Grammy-winning singer has had on fellow Nigerian artistes.
Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, has established an international reputation through his blend of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae and other musical styles. His ability to combine different sounds with bold performances has helped him build a strong following both in Nigeria and abroad.
For Blaqbonez, the singer’s influence appears to extend beyond his music to the energy and confidence he brings to his own work.
The rapper’s remarks suggest that he sees a potential collaboration as an opportunity to combine their different musical approaches. While Blaqbonez is primarily associated with Nigerian hip-hop, Burna Boy has built his career around a sound that draws from several genres.
A collaboration could therefore bring together two artistes with distinct musical identities and established audiences.
However, Blaqbonez did not provide details about a possible song, album or timeline for the proposed partnership. His statement was an expression of interest rather than confirmation that a project was underway.
From ‘Sex Over Love’ to ‘Emeka Must Shine’
Born Emeka Akumefule, Blaqbonez has grown into a recognised name in Nigeria’s rap scene through his music, distinctive personality and willingness to experiment with different sounds.
He gained wider recognition with his 2021 album, Sex Over Love, which helped strengthen his profile among Nigerian hip-hop listeners.
The project contributed to his growing presence in the industry, while his approach to music and promotion distinguished him from many of his contemporaries.
In 2022, he followed up with Young Preacher, another project that showcased his development as a rapper and his continued exploration of hip-hop.
His third studio album, Emeka Must Shine, arrived in 2023 and further reinforced his reputation for experimentation and innovation within the genre.
The album added to his growing body of work and demonstrated his interest in pushing beyond conventional expectations of Nigerian rap.
Recognition for Innovation in Rap
Blaqbonez’s creative approach also earned him international recognition when Rolling Stone magazine included him on its list of 50 Innovators Shaping Rap’s Future in August 2023.
The recognition highlighted his place among artistes contributing to the evolution of rap music and expanding its creative possibilities.
He continued his musical journey with No Excuses in 2025 before adding Nomadinho: 4th Prime to his discography as his fifth studio album.
Across his projects, Blaqbonez has explored different themes, sounds and artistic directions while maintaining a strong connection to hip-hop.
His interest in collaborating with Burna Boy comes as he continues to develop his sound and pursue new creative possibilities.
Fans Await Possible Collaboration
Although there is no confirmed release date or announcement of a joint project, Blaqbonez’s public expression of interest has opened up the possibility of a future collaboration.
A partnership between the rapper and Burna Boy would bring together two Nigerian artistes whose careers have followed different paths but whose music reaches audiences beyond the country.
For now, fans will have to wait to see whether the expressed interest develops into a recording project.
