Nigerian model Bethel Mbamara has achieved a significant milestone on the international stage after finishing as the first runner-up at the Mister Global 2026 competition in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Nigerian contestant secured the position at the grand finale held on Saturday, October 10, becoming the highest-placed Nigerian representative since the country began participating in the annual men's pageant.
Mbamara delivered an impressive performance throughout the competition, demonstrating his confidence, presentation skills and ability to compete against contestants from different parts of the world.
His journey to the final stages began with the swimwear segment, where he secured a place among the Top 20 contestants. He subsequently progressed into the Top 10 after the formal wear and speech presentations, further strengthening his chances of claiming the title.
The Nigerian model continued his impressive run by advancing into the Top 5 before earning a place among the final three contestants.
However, he narrowly missed out on the crown, finishing behind Türkiye's Dilhan Divrikli, who was announced as Mister Global 2026.
The Philippines' Myron Jude, popularly known as MJ Ordillano, completed the podium as the second runner-up.
Despite not winning the overall title, Mbamara's achievement represents a major breakthrough for Nigeria at the international competition, setting a new benchmark for future representatives of the country.
The accomplishment also adds to his growing record in international men's pageantry. Mbamara, whose full name is Bethel Damian Chidera Mbamara, previously represented Nigeria at Mister International 2025, where he finished as the third runner-up.
His performance at that competition earned him the additional recognition of Mister International Africa, further establishing his presence within the international pageant community.
He returned to the global stage this year after being appointed Mister Global Nigeria 2026, a role that gave him the opportunity to represent the country among contestants from several nations.
Mister Global is an international men's pageant established in Thailand in 2014. The competition seeks to showcase contestants through different categories, including swimwear, formal wear, public speaking and interviews.
These segments assess participants beyond their physical appearance, placing emphasis on communication, confidence, presentation and their ability to represent their respective countries.
The 2026 competition marked the 12th edition of the pageant, with Mbamara's performance placing Nigeria in a stronger position in its history.
His first runner-up finish is expected to draw further attention to Nigerian participation in international men's pageantry, while providing an encouraging example for aspiring models seeking opportunities on the global stage.
