Being a Nigerian can make you believe that certain opportunities are out of reach, especially when it comes to travelling abroad. Nigerian businessman Adefemi Komiyo Lawrence, popularly known as Fekomi, has pointed to his experience with UK and Canadian visa applications to explain why he feels this way.

Fekomi said his UK visa was approved in less than a minute when he applied with his St. Kitts and Nevis passport. He also recalled that his Canadian visa application took six months when he used his Nigerian passport, while the application made with his St. Kitts passport was approved in four weeks.

According to him, he was granted a six-year Canadian visa after applying with the Caribbean country's passport.

He said:

“Being a Nigerian will make you believe that certain things are extremely difficult. I used my St. Kitts passport to apply for a UK visa, and I got approved in less than one minute. The same thing happened with Canada. When I applied with my Nigerian passport, it took six months, but when I used my St. Kitts passport, I got approved in four weeks and was granted a six-year visa.

If you are a young man with money, instead of spending it on unnecessary things in clubs, use it to get a St. Kitts passport. It will save you a lot of stress.”

The businessman also advised young men with money to think carefully about how they spend it, suggesting that investing in a second citizenship could be worth considering instead of spending heavily on nightlife.

St. Kitts and Nevis, a Caribbean nation, offers a citizenship-by-investment programme for eligible applicants who meet its financial, legal and background-check requirements.

However, holding its passport does not automatically guarantee a UK or Canadian visa. Applicants must still meet the immigration requirements of their destination, and processing times vary.

Fekomi's account reflects his personal experience with the two passports, although other applicants may have different experiences depending on their circumstances.
