Why I Was So Excited At Kamo State’s Movie Premiere – Funmi Awelewa

Nollywood actress Funmi Awelewa has responded to criticism over her enthusiastic support for actor Kamo State during the premiere of his movie, Star Lomo.

Awelewa came under scrutiny after a video of her visibly excited reaction at the event circulated, with some people questioning the level of attention she gave to the actor. However, the actress has explained that her reaction was influenced by the personal relationship she shares with Kamo and the support he offered her during a difficult chapter of her life.

According to Awelewa, Kamo was there for her when she was struggling emotionally following a major heartbreak. She recalled that the actor and his family provided her with a place where she could find comfort during that period.

She particularly remembered Kamo’s younger sister preparing noodles for her and said the actor went as far as leaving his home for her at the time. 

For Awelewa, those experiences demonstrated the kind of person Kamo was to her when she needed support.

The actress said her happiness at seeing the actor’s progress was therefore genuine and came from knowing what he had experienced before reaching his current position.

Addressing those who criticised her, Awelewa said she was not bothered by the comments. She maintained that Kamo had been a kind and supportive younger brother to her and someone who had consistently shown concern for people around him.

She also encouraged people, particularly residents and indigenes of Ibadan, to support the actor and his latest project. In her message, she described Star Lomo as a movie she believed audiences would enjoy.

Awelewa’s comments have shifted attention away from the criticism and towards the friendship and history behind her emotional reaction at the premiere. 

Her explanation suggests that her public display of excitement was less about the event itself and more about celebrating someone who had previously stood by her during a challenging period.

For the actress, supporting Kamo State was therefore a personal gesture of appreciation and encouragement as he continues to make progress in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
