Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, better known as Sabinus, has explained why Port Harcourt remains his preferred location for producing his comedy skits despite making Lagos his home base.
The skit maker revealed that he regularly travels from Lagos to Rivers State whenever he has filming scheduled. After completing his productions, he returns to Lagos, where he focuses on other areas of his career and personal activities.
Sabinus made the disclosure while discussing his approach to content creation. He explained that his decision to continue shooting in Port Harcourt is largely influenced by the nature of the stories featured in his comedy.
Although Lagos is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s major entertainment centres and attracts a large number of actors, comedians and content creators, Sabinus has maintained a different production routine.
Rather than moving his entire skit operation to Lagos, he continues to return to Port Harcourt whenever it is time to create new comedy content.
The comedian said he has a specific period when he travels to the city for filming. Once the production work is completed, he heads back to Lagos, where he spends time handling other professional commitments, building relationships and enjoying life away from the demands of shooting.
According to him, the environment and setting required for his particular style of storytelling are among the major reasons Port Harcourt continues to feature prominently in his productions.
Sabinus has built a strong following through comedy skits that often revolve around everyday Nigerian experiences, characters and situations. His distinctive mannerisms and storytelling style have helped him establish himself as one of the country's recognised digital comedians.
His continued connection to Port Harcourt also reflects the importance of location in comedy production.
While some creators may choose places based primarily on convenience or proximity to entertainment industry networks, Sabinus appears to place considerable importance on whether a location suits the stories he wants to tell.
The comedian’s routine means that his professional life is split between two major Nigerian cities. Lagos serves as his base for activities outside skit production, while Port Harcourt remains the location where he brings many of his comedy stories to life.
Sabinus did not indicate that he plans to abandon the arrangement anytime soon. Instead, his explanation suggests that the system has become part of the way he manages his creative work.
