Toyin Abraham has pulled back the curtain on the first confirmed cast member of her forthcoming film Bestie, revealing that Nollywood icon Pete Edochie will step into the role of Papa Ngozi when the movie hits cinemas in December.
The actress-turned-filmmaker made the announcement on her social media platform on Monday, expressing visible excitement at landing the veteran for the project.
She described his casting as a major coup, referring to him as a legend and greatest of all time joining the production, and confirmed that Bestie will open in cinemas nationwide from December 16.
The reveal follows closely on the heels of Toyin's earlier disclosure that Bestie would be her next big-screen venture, though details about the storyline and supporting cast remain under wraps for now.
Edochie's involvement adds significant weight to a project already generating buzz, arriving at a time when the actor's name has been at the centre of several Nollywood conversations, from seniority debates among veteran performers to reflections on his early career encounters with younger stars.
His decision to join Bestie signals continued relevance for the actor decades into an already storied career.
For Toyin, the film marks the latest chapter in a run of successes that have cemented her standing both in front of and behind the camera.
Her 2025 release, Oversabi Aunty, became a major commercial hit, surpassing the one billion naira mark at Nigerian cinemas and earning her a Box Office Champion Award from the National Film and Video Censors Board in March 2026. That achievement has fuelled anticipation for whatever she produces next.
Bestie also continues a pattern that has become something of a signature for Toyin, releasing a new film in cinemas every December.
She previously followed this rhythm with Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper in 2022, Malaika in 2023, and Alakada: Bad and Boujee in 2024, each contributing to her growing reputation as one of the industry's most consistent December box office draws.
This year's holiday cinema season looks set to be a competitive one. Funke Akindele's much anticipated project, The Four: No One Fights Alone, is scheduled to premiere on December 11, just five days ahead of Bestie's release date, setting up what could be a notable box office contest between two of Nollywood's biggest names during the festive period.
For now, moviegoers will have to wait for further updates on Bestie, as Toyin has not yet disclosed additional cast members or given any indication of what the film's plot will involve. What is clear, though, is that with Pete Edochie already attached, expectations for the project have been set considerably high ahead of its December debut.
