Spyro Says Online Money Is Taking Young People Away From Handwork

Spyro has raised a concern about the growing preference for online income among young people and the possibility that fewer of them may be interested in learning practical trades.

The singer said the issue came up during a conversation with his mechanic, who reportedly expressed concern about the number of people still interested in learning the trade.

For Spyro, the situation goes beyond young people simply choosing different career paths. He believes there could be consequences in the years ahead if fewer people take the time to learn skills that require hands-on experience.

He pointed to everyday services such as car repairs, air conditioning maintenance and electrical work, noting that these are jobs people rely on regularly but may not have enough skilled workers to handle in the future.

He said:

“I spoke to my mechanic, and they’re complaining that people aren’t coming to learn handwork anymore. 10 years from now, we’ll all have to fix our cars, ACs and do electrical work ourselves because Gen Z would rather make money online than learn handwork.”

The comment reflects a wider change in the way many young people now look at work. With the growth of social media, remote jobs, digital businesses and other ways of earning money online, traditional trades may no longer appear as attractive to some young people.

For many, the internet has created opportunities that were difficult to imagine years ago. A person can now learn a digital skill, work with clients from different countries or build an income without necessarily having to operate from a physical workplace.

But practical trades still play an important role in everyday life. Cars will still need repairs, electrical faults will still happen, air conditioners will still require servicing and homes will continue to need people with technical skills.

That is the concern behind Spyro’s point.

Rather than dismissing online work, his comment draws attention to the need for a balance between new forms of employment and traditional skills. Making money online may offer opportunities, but learning a practical trade can also provide a skill that remains useful for years.

His mechanic’s complaint also raises a simple question about who will take over these trades as older artisans leave the workforce. If fewer young people choose to learn from experienced workers today, finding skilled hands in the future could become more difficult.

For Spyro, learning handwork is therefore not just about having another way to make money. It is about having people who can keep essential everyday services running when they are needed.
