Prophetess Sommy, the head pastor of Glorious Manifestation Ministry, has publicly voiced her displeasure over what she described as a disappointing lack of support from members of her congregation.
The cleric made her feelings known while addressing the church, expressing particular frustration over the poor turnout for her birthday celebration and the limited financial gifts she received from members.
According to Sommy, the situation was not an isolated incident. She claimed that members had also failed to show adequate support during her birthday celebration the previous year, leaving her questioning why the congregation appeared more willing to contribute to church projects than to matters concerning her personally.
Addressing the congregation, she said:
“From year to year, we do not collect prophet offering. The only thing that concerns you is building of altar, donating ₦3 million and so on, but anything that concerns your woman of God, you people will not show interest.
“When it gets to the woman of God, your prophetess that calls down the glory of God for you to come and carry your blessing, you won’t show any interest.
“Only two people donated for my birthday, one ₦5k, the other ₦10k. I've dried up because of fasting and I keep taking medication. It's a very w!ck£d thing to do.
“Last year, same thing happened. This two bags of rice that somebody donated, you people will eat it raw.
“I will not cook it with my money. I won't drop a single dime. Even common data, you don't give me. I have br0ken my legs while conducting deliverance too."
Her comments suggested that her disappointment was not solely about the amount of money received but also about the apparent absence of members from an occasion she considered personally significant.
Sommy pointed to the contrast between the congregation's reported willingness to raise large sums for church development and what she described as their failure to extend comparable support to her as their pastor.
She specifically referenced a ₦3 million contribution toward the construction of an altar, placing it alongside the ₦15,000 she said she received from two people for her birthday.
The prophetess also recalled her previous birthday, saying that members had exhibited a similar attitude last year. Her statement, “Last year, same thing happened,” indicated that she regarded the issue as a recurring problem rather than a one-time disappointment.
Beyond the birthday celebration, Sommy spoke about the personal demands she said came with her ministry. She claimed that prolonged fasting had affected her health and that she had continued taking medication. She also mentioned sustaining injuries while conducting deliverance sessions.
The pastor further expressed frustration that, according to her, even basic assistance such as mobile data was not provided by members.
Her remarks have brought renewed attention to the relationship between religious leaders and their congregations, particularly the expectations surrounding personal gifts, welfare and financial support.
While church contributions are often directed toward collective projects and activities, Sommy's complaint focused on what she viewed as a need for members to also show appreciation and concern for the individual leading the congregation
The comments have since stirred reactions, with the central issue being her claim that members who contribute significantly toward church projects did not demonstrate the same level of support during her birthday celebration.
For Sommy, the disappointment appears to go beyond the monetary value of the gifts. Her remarks indicate that she was also affected by the reported failure of members to turn up for her celebration, especially after she claimed that a similar situation occurred the previous year.
