‘‘Olu, My Brother, There Is A Possibility We’ll Meet Again’ - Pete Edochie Mourns Olu Jacobs

Pete Edochie has remembered his longtime colleague, Olu Jacobs, following the death of the veteran actor.

For Pete, saying goodbye to Olu goes beyond the loss of another familiar face in Nollywood. The two belonged to an older generation of actors who spent decades working in the industry and watching many of their colleagues come and go.

In his tribute to the late actor, Pete described Olu as his brother and reflected on the strength he showed through the difficult years before his death.

He said:

“Olu, my brother. You fought like a man. Fought like a soldier, I have always known you. Rest in peace, my brother. I commiserate with you for what you had to endure over a period of six years. Of all our senior colleagues who have gone, Olu was the only person who got up to 80 and beyond. The good book allowed us three score and ten, that is seventy. 14 years on top of that. Unfortunately, the past six years were not what we had projected or expected in any way. Like I said in Hausa, if God says it is time, then it is time.

My one prayer is that one of Olu's children takes to acting, so that whenever we look at him we remember what Olu meant to all of us. Olu was our most senior. While we must mourn that Olu has gone, we should also be glad and celebrate Olu's life. If it is true that people recognize one another after they have gone, then there is the possibility that we'll meet again.”

Pete’s words also reflected on the passing of time and the loss of several actors from their generation. Olu, he noted, had lived beyond the traditional three-score-and-ten mentioned in the Bible, reaching his eighties.

While the final years of Olu’s life came with difficulties, Pete chose to remember the larger picture of the life he lived. His tribute carries both the sadness of losing a close colleague and the appreciation of having shared the same professional journey with him.

One of Pete’s personal wishes is that one of Olu’s children will eventually choose acting as a career. For him, that would keep a connection to the late actor alive and give those who knew him another reason to remember what he contributed to the industry.

Olu Jacobs was one of the familiar names from an era that helped shape Nigerian acting. His career stretched across theatre, television and film, earning him respect from colleagues and audiences over many years.

Pete’s tribute therefore serves as a farewell to a colleague he regarded as a brother and a senior member of their acting family. He acknowledged the grief that comes with Olu’s death, but also encouraged those who knew him to remember the life behind the loss.

For Pete, Olu’s story is not only about the years he spent on earth, but also about the people he worked with, the memories he created and the mark he left behind.
