Meet Esther Nkem Okereke, the Nollywood Actress Running for Nigeria’s Presidency in 2027

Esther Nkem Okereke is taking on a new chapter in her public career, moving from the Nigerian film industry into politics as she seeks the presidency in the 2027 general election.

Known for her work as an actress and filmmaker, Okereke has emerged as the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) after winning the party’s presidential primary in Abuja. Her entry into the race has drawn attention because of her transition from entertainment to a campaign for Nigeria’s highest elected office.

Before becoming involved in politics, Okereke established herself in Nollywood, working as both an actress and producer. Her acting credits include films such as A Woman’s Plight, Wedding Saga, Crux, Enigma, Rebellion, Venom, Silent Sound, The Revealing, The Expected and My Wife and I.

Her activities, however, extend beyond filmmaking. The source describes Okereke as an entrepreneur with interests in construction, real estate, hospitality and sports. 

She has also been involved in humanitarian initiatives through foundations focused on assisting vulnerable members of society.

Following her emergence as the NRM candidate, she introduced the ESTHER Agenda, which covers areas including education, security, technology, housing, entrepreneurship and restitution. 

She has said the agenda reflects her approach to issues such as electricity, insecurity, education and economic development.

With the 2027 election approaching, Okereke’s political journey marks a significant change from her previous career in Nollywood, placing her among entertainers who have moved into Nigeria’s political space.
