Lawrence Oyor Says Peter Obi’s Record Stands Out Despite His Political Influence

Gospel minister Lawrence Oyor has described the political journey of presidential candidate Peter Obi as one that deserves attention, particularly when his rise, influence and public profile are considered.

Oyor’s comment centres on what he sees as an unusual aspect of Obi’s career in public life. While political figures often face questions about their past as their influence grows, the gospel minister said he finds it difficult to identify something that can be firmly attached to Obi as wrongdoing.

He made the point while speaking about Obi’s position in Nigerian politics and the level of prominence the presidential candidate has attained. For Oyor, supporting Obi is a separate matter from recognising what he considers remarkable about the politician’s journey.

He stressed that Nigerians are free to make their own political choices and that a person does not have to vote for Obi before acknowledging the level he has reached.

“Whether you want to vote for Peter Obi or not, it should baffle you that he has made it to that level of prosperity and capacity in politics, power and influence, yet you cannot pin anything on him”,he said.

The statement reflects Oyor’s focus on Obi’s record as he continues to maintain a strong presence in the country’s political space.

Rather than making the issue solely about elections or political support, Oyor drew attention to the combination of power, influence and prosperity that has come with Obi’s political career. His argument is that such a level of prominence would ordinarily attract intense scrutiny, making the absence of something he considers substantial enough to pin on Obi noteworthy.

Obi has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, particularly among voters who have continued to identify with his political message and public record. His name has also remained part of conversations around the country’s leadership and future political direction.

For Oyor, however, the issue is not simply about whether someone is an Obi supporter. He appears to be asking Nigerians to look at the presidential candidate’s journey independently of their political preferences and consider how he has risen to a position of considerable influence.
