Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Officer Woos has opened up about the financial challenges he faced when he was still trying to establish himself in the digital entertainment space.
Looking back on the early stages of his career, the comedian admitted that it took him about two years to earn his first ₦1 million from skitmaking.
Officer Woos explained that one of the major mistakes he made at the beginning was concentrating too heavily on securing paid promotions on Instagram.
At the time, he was willing to accept relatively small payments from brands, with some deals reportedly bringing him around ₦100,000. While he was focused on those opportunities, he said he failed to fully recognise the earning potential available to creators on other major platforms.
According to the content creator, Facebook and YouTube offered significant opportunities that he was not taking advantage of during that period. He later came to believe that he had missed out on substantial monthly earnings by not paying enough attention to the two platforms.
His experience, however, eventually became an important lesson for him. Rather than allowing the mistake to remain a personal regret, Officer Woos said he used what he had learned to help his brother, Shank, avoid making similar decisions after entering the skitmaking industry.
The comedian's account highlights how difficult the early stages of a digital career can be, particularly when creators are still trying to understand how different platforms generate revenue.
While social media may provide visibility and access to large audiences, turning that attention into sustainable income often requires creators to understand the business side of content production.
For Officer Woos, Instagram brand deals initially appeared to be the most obvious route to making money from his growing audience. His later experience showed him that depending on a single platform or revenue source could mean overlooking other potentially lucrative opportunities.
His decision to pass that knowledge on to his brother also reflects how lessons from one person's career can help another person progress more quickly. By sharing the mistakes he made, Officer Woos was able to provide Shank with a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to content creators.
Today, his reflection serves as a reminder that building a successful career in the creator economy requires more than producing entertaining content.
Understanding audience reach, platform monetisation and different income streams can be just as important. For Officer Woos, recognising those lessons came after years of trial and error, but the experience ultimately helped shape how he approached his own career and advised others entering the same industry.
