Real Warri Pikin has taken a humorous approach to the criticism she faced after the incident involving singer Timaya during his performance.
The comedian had earlier apologised for what happened, explaining that she went on stage because she was enjoying the performance and did not know exactly what Timaya had planned.
In a follow-up comment, Real Warri Pikin joked about what came after the incident, particularly the expectations placed on her because people see her as a role model.
She said the pressure had become too much for her, joking that she was already running out of patience.
In her words:
“They don drag me for everywhere. Hey, my bl00d don short. Why did you jump? Don't you know you are a role model? I no wan be role model again oh, una pretend I dey pretend since oh my true color don come outside. I no wan be role model again because for Nigeria if you be a role model, you no be human being. You make one small mistake they don k!ll you. Eh, my bl00d don short. I need top up, I need top up oh”.
Her comment came with plenty of humour, but she also used it to point out how demanding the expectations around being a role model can be.
According to Real Warri Pikin, once someone is given the role-model tag, even a small mistake can attract intense judgment. She joked that people were now acting as though she had been hiding her “true colour” all along and that the incident had exposed the person she really was.
The comedian also questioned the idea that being a role model should mean someone is no longer allowed to behave like an ordinary human being. Her point was that public figures can make mistakes, have spontaneous moments and sometimes find themselves in situations they did not plan for.
Her choice of words kept the matter light rather than turning the explanation into another serious apology. Instead, she leaned into her usual comic style, exaggerating the pressure by saying her “blood” had become short and that she needed a “top up.”
The comment also follows her earlier explanation of the Timaya performance. Real Warri Pikin had said she was backstage enjoying the music when Timaya asked a lady to come out. She decided to join him without knowing that he intended to involve her in the particular part of the performance.
She later explained that she was surprised when Timaya asked her to jump on him and insisted that she had initially been reluctant.
Her earlier apology included an admission that she had put herself in the situation by coming out from backstage in the first place.
Now, with her latest comment, Real Warri Pikin appears to be addressing the expectations surrounding her in a more playful way. Rather than presenting herself as someone who always gets everything right, she is reminding people that being known as a role model does not automatically make someone perfect.
And judging by her final line, she believes she could use a little break from the pressure.
“Eh, my bl00d don short. I need top up, I need top up oh”.
