The race for the prestigious 2026 Ballon d’Or awards has officially begun, with some of the biggest names in world football making the shortlist for this year’s honours.
Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and several other established stars have been nominated for the men’s Ballon d’Or, while the women’s category features leading players such as Alexia Putellas, Caroline Graham Hansen, Ewa Pajor and Khadija Shaw.
The nominees for the individual awards were announced on Tuesday, giving football fans an early look at the players, coaches and clubs competing for recognition after the 2025/26 season.
The Ballon d’Or honours players who are judged to have delivered outstanding performances during the preceding football season. The awards have become one of the most prestigious individual recognitions in the sport.
The 2026 ceremony is scheduled to take place in London on October 26, when the winners across the various categories will be revealed and crowned.
Beyond the main men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or prizes, organisers have also announced nominees for Young Talent of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Coach of the Year and Club of the Year.
Men’s Ballon d’Or — 30 Nominees

The Women’s Coach of the Year nominees are Jonatan Giráldez, Andrée Jeglertz, Nils Nielsen, Pere Romeu and Elena Sadiku.
For the Men’s Club of the Year award, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bodø/Glimt, Flamengo and Paris Saint-Germain have been nominated.
The Women’s Club of the Year nominees are FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Club América, Manchester City and OL Lyonnes.
With the nominations now announced, attention will turn to the performances, achievements and individual campaigns that could ultimately determine who takes home the biggest prizes when the ceremony takes place in London on October 26.
