Adebayo Reveals Plans for Seven Doors Follow-Up

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has confirmed that a follow-up to his acclaimed 2024 miniseries, Seven Doors, is now in the works, marking his latest addition to a growing string of Nollywood sequels.

The revelation came during a conversation on VJ Adams Live, where Adebayo opened up about his personal creative process when developing new projects. 

According to him, revisiting his earlier work forms a key part of his preparation, a method he has used with past productions and is now applying to his upcoming Seven Doors follow-up.

Explaining his process further, Adebayo noted that his habit of rewatching completed films before starting a sequel had already played out with Jagun Jagun and Ageshinkole, and that the same pattern was guiding his current preparations for the Seven Doors continuation. 

He added that audience feedback, whether positive or critical, also plays a meaningful role in shaping how he refines future installments, since it offers him insight into what worked and what could be improved.

Seven Doors originally debuted on Netflix in December 2024 as a six-episode limited series centered on King Adedunjoye, a monarch whose rule comes under threat following the emergence of an ancient prophecy tied to his kingdom. 

The production featured a strong ensemble cast including Adebayo himself alongside Chioma Apotha, Kola Ajeyemi, Adebayo Salami, Jide Kosoko, and Aliu Gafar.

The series went on to enjoy considerable industry recognition, with Adebayo taking home the Best Lead Actor honour at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards in May 2025, while co-star Chioma Apotha claimed the Best Lead Actress prize in the same ceremony. 

Beyond that, the show swept four categories at the 2025 Best of Nollywood Awards, picking up honours for its production design, cinematography, special effects, and overall series quality.

This isn't Adebayo's first venture into franchise filmmaking. He previously wrote, directed, and starred in Jagun Jagun, which premiered on Netflix in 2023 and went on to spawn its own sequel. He followed that success with Ageshinkole, a cinema release that hit Nigerian theatres in December 2025.

With Seven Doors now joining the list of Adebayo's works receiving sequel treatment, the actor-producer appears to be cementing a signature approach to franchise-building within Nollywood, one that blends critical acclaim with a methodical, feedback-driven creative process aimed at ensuring each follow-up builds meaningfully on what came before it while staying true to the strengths that made the originals successful in the first place.
