Nollywood veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, is set to lead the cast of a new epic drama, A Land Apart, which is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on October 23, 2026.
The upcoming movie takes audiences into an alternate version of Nigeria’s history, presenting a country whose economic strength was built not on crude oil but on agriculture.
A Land Apart explores what Nigeria might have looked like if oil had never been discovered, imagining a nation that transformed its agricultural potential into a source of immense wealth, influence and global power.
At the centre of the story is Dekera Ahura, played by RMD, a powerful figure who builds a vast agricultural empire around AX-103, a special formula that reportedly saves the world from a devastating food crisis.
The discovery and development of the formula changes the fortunes of the nation, turning agriculture into more than a means of survival. It becomes the foundation of an empire capable of attracting attention from powerful forces beyond Nigeria.
However, Dekera’s success comes with a difficult challenge. As he builds his empire, he begins preparing his daughter, Dooshima, portrayed by Princess Mufeedah, to eventually take over from him.
Rather than simply leaving his legacy to chance, Dekera secretly trains Dooshima for the enormous responsibility ahead. His decision sets the stage for a complicated family struggle, as questions of succession, loyalty and power begin to emerge.
The situation becomes even more dangerous when global forces turn their attention towards AX-103.
With the formula holding enormous value because of its role in addressing a worldwide food crisis, those seeking control of it create a wider geopolitical conflict. What begins as a family succession plan gradually develops into a battle involving powerful interests determined to gain access to the formula.
The film therefore combines family drama with political and geopolitical themes, while using its alternate-history setting to imagine a different path for Nigeria.
Beyond its fictional storyline, A Land Apart also places considerable emphasis on Nigerian culture and heritage. The production particularly highlights Benue traditions, giving the story a strong cultural identity while presenting its futuristic agricultural empire.
The contrast between the traditional elements and the film’s imagined economic and political landscape is expected to form an important part of its visual and storytelling appeal.
RMD leads the cast alongside Princess Mufeedah, with the late veteran singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu also featuring in the movie. Other notable cast members include Sam Dede, Daniel Etim Effiong and Adam Garba.
The presence of experienced actors such as RMD, Sam Dede and Daniel Etim Effiong adds to the anticipation surrounding the project, while Onyeka Onwenu’s appearance gives the production an additional significance following her death.
A Land Apart is directed and produced by Bem Pever through Take 7 Media, with Nile Entertainment handling its distribution.
The production appears positioned as an ambitious Nollywood project, combining an imagined historical reality with themes of family, leadership, agriculture, power and international interests.
Rather than telling a conventional story about Nigeria’s oil-driven economy, the film asks audiences to consider an alternative possibility: what if agriculture had remained the country’s greatest source of wealth and influence?
Through Dekera Ahura’s empire, Dooshima’s preparation to inherit his legacy and the international battle over AX-103, A Land Apart presents a fictional world where Nigeria occupies a powerful position because of its agricultural achievements.
As the October 23 cinema release approaches, the RMD-led production is expected to attract attention for its unusual premise, ensemble cast and celebration of Nigerian cultural heritage.
A Land Apart will be released in cinemas nationwide on October 23, 2026.
