Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about the reason she takes extra precautions when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of her daughter, Priscilla Ojo.

The actress explained that her personal experience as a survivor of sexual assault has significantly shaped the way she approaches parenting.

According to her, the experience left her particularly cautious about situations that could potentially put her daughter at risk.

Iyabo revealed that her protective nature became especially noticeable when Priscilla was studying at university. At the time, she closely monitored her daughter’s movements and made sure she maintained regular communication with her.

She recalled that Priscilla once questioned whether her mother trusted her because of the level of supervision she received.

The actress said she would ask her daughter to contact her before leaving school and, in some situations, ensured that a member of staff accompanied her.

For Iyabo, however, the precautions were not necessarily about doubting her daughter’s judgment. Instead, they were influenced by her own understanding of the dangers women can face and her desire to prevent her child from experiencing anything similar.

The actress also admitted that her past experience has made her particularly careful about leaving Priscilla alone with men. She explained that her decision comes from the fear and awareness created by what she personally went through.

Her comments highlight the complicated emotions that can come with parenting after experiencing trauma.

While parents naturally want to give their children independence as they grow older, painful personal experiences can sometimes make it difficult to completely let go of fear and constant vigilance.

Priscilla, who has grown into a public figure in her own right, has maintained a close relationship with her mother despite the challenges that may come with such a protective approach. Iyabo’s decision to speak openly about the issue also provides insight into the personal experiences that can influence how parents raise and protect their children.

The actress’s revelation has generated discussion about parental protection, trust and the lasting effects of traumatic experiences.

For some parents, particularly those who have experienced abuse themselves, ensuring the safety of their children can become a major priority.

Iyabo’s story ultimately reflects a mother’s desire to shield her daughter from dangers she understands all too well. Although her approach may sometimes appear strict, she believes her caution comes from love, personal experience and a strong determination to keep Priscilla safe.
