Nigeria’s film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of acclaimed filmmaker, producer and writer Dimbo Atiya, whose contributions to television and cinema helped shape modern Nollywood.
The respected director reportedly passed away on Thursday, with news of his death first announced by movie producer Seun Oloketuyi in a post shared on Instagram.
Although details surrounding his death remain scarce, the announcement has sparked an outpouring of grief from actors, filmmakers and fans who celebrated his remarkable career and lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
Seun Oloketuyi Announces His Death
Oloketuyi confirmed the sad development by sharing a photograph of the late filmmaker alongside a brief message that immediately attracted widespread attention within the entertainment community.
“Dimbo Atiya is dead. The Top Nollywood Director passed on this morning. Details later,” he wrote.
The announcement quickly spread across social media, prompting an emotional response from colleagues who had worked with Atiya throughout his career.
As of the time of filing this report, neither his family nor representatives had released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Colleagues Pay Emotional Tributes
Among the first celebrities to react was actor Mofe Duncan, who expressed disbelief and heartbreak over the loss.
Sharing a photograph of the late filmmaker, Duncan wrote:

She extended her condolences to the filmmaker’s family, friends and everyone privileged to have known him, praying for strength and comfort during the difficult period.
