The growing concern over insecurity in parts of Lagos Island has once again taken center stage following a strong warning from media personality NaijaShimadun, who believes the Lekki axis is gradually slipping into a dangerous state.

NaijaShimadun expressed deep concern about what he described as the increasing presence of street thugs across several parts of Lagos Island, particularly within the Lekki corridor. According to him, the trend is becoming more visible while many residents appear to be overlooking the warning signs.

Drawing a comparison with one of Lagos' busiest commercial districts, he said the situation is steadily deteriorating and could become more difficult to control if urgent measures are not taken.

"Lagos Island, especially the Lekki axis, is gradually becoming the new Oshodi. The Lekki axis is becoming increasingly dangerous, and while everyone sits back and relaxes, thugs are comfortably occupying different corners of the Island."

He further argued that the issue goes beyond the activities of suspected criminals, noting that the culture of excessive luxury display by some public figures may unintentionally expose them to security threats.

According to NaijaShimadun, the growing trend of celebrities showcasing expensive lifestyles and creating social media content in the area could make them attractive targets for criminals.

"Meanwhile, many of our celebrities are turning the area into a place to showcase their wealth and create social media hype, without realizing that they may be putting their lives and properties at risk."

His comments have fueled fresh discussions on social media, with many users sharing their personal experiences and expressing concerns about the safety of residents and visitors in parts of Lekki and other areas of Lagos Island. While some agreed with his observations, others maintained that security agencies have continued to intensify patrols and should be given more support to tackle criminal activities.

NaijaShimadun concluded his message with an appeal to the Lagos State Government, urging 7the authorities to act swiftly before the situation escalates beyond control.

"I am urging the Lagos State Government to urgently step in and do something about the growing presence of thugs and street violence across these areas before the situation gets completely out of hand", he said.

NaijaShimadun maintained that the warning should not be taken lightly, stressing that immediate action is needed to prevent the situation from getting worse. He urged the Lagos State Government to strengthen security across the Lekki axis and other parts of Lagos Island to ensure residents and business owners can go about their daily activities without fear.
