The organisers of the 2026 Headies Awards have unveiled the nominees competing across some of the most anticipated categories ahead of this year’s ceremony.
The nomination list features a mix of established Afrobeats stars, fast-rising artistes and alternative music acts, setting the stage for a competitive edition of the prestigious Nigerian music awards.
Several major names, including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Asake, Tems, Rema and Omah Lay, secured nominations across different categories.
The 2026 Headies is expected to take place in Canada as the awards continue their international expansion and celebrate achievements within Nigeria’s music industry.

The Song Of The Year category features some of the biggest records released during the eligibility period, with Kunmie, Ayra Starr, Fido, Asake, Wizkid, Davido and Omah Lay among the artistes competing for the honour.
Afrobeats Single Of The Year
* Fun — Rema
* Jogodo — Asake & Wizkid
* Laho — Shallipopi
* With You — Davido & Omah Lay
* You — Fola
* Bundle By Bundle — Burna Boy
The Afrobeats Single Of The Year category brings together some of the genre’s biggest names, including Rema, Asake, Wizkid, Shallipopi, Davido, Omah Lay, Fola and Burna Boy.
Best Performer (Live)
* Adekunle Gold — Live at the National Theatre, Lagos
* Asake — Red Bull Symphonic
* Ayra Starr — Global Citizen Festival 2025
* Johnny Drille — Johnny’s Room Live 6
* Ruger — Live at Indigo at The O2, London (2025)
The Best Performer (Live) category recognises artistes for their performances on major stages, with Adekunle Gold, Asake, Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille and Ruger competing for the award.
Best R&B Album
* Before We Became Strangers — Kunmie
* Catharsis — Fola
* I Am the Blueprint — Qing Madi
* Love Is a Kingdom — Tems
* Reflection Station — Tay Iwar
* This One Is Personal — Tiwa Savage
The Best R&B Album category features projects from a diverse group of artistes, including Tems and Tiwa Savage, alongside Kunmie, Fola, Qing Madi and Tay Iwar.
Best Recording Of The Year
* Arike — Kunmie
* Amaeya — How Do You?
* Baby (Is It a Crime) — Rema
* Coping Mechanism — Omah Lay & Elmah
* With You — Davido & Omah Lay
* You — Fola
The Best Recording Of The Year nominees include Kunmie, Rema, Omah Lay, Elmah, Davido, Omah Lay and Fola, with several songs also appearing in other major categories.
Best Alternative Album
* Afrika Magik — SDC
* Detox — Sewa
* Duplicity — BOJ
* Healers Chapel — Wizard Chan
* Olorin Pack — Scottyolorin
* Then 1t Got Crazy — Zaylevelten
The category highlights Nigeria’s growing alternative music scene, with SDC, Sewa, BOJ, Wizard Chan, Scottyolorin and Zaylevelten competing for the honour.
Digital Artiste Of The Year
* Asake
* Ayra Starr
* BNXN
* Chella
* Fola
* Mavo
* Seyi Vibez
* Wizkid
The Digital Artiste Of The Year category includes eight artistes who have recorded significant digital presence and audience engagement, including Asake, Ayra Starr, BNXN, Chella, Fola, Mavo, Seyi Vibez and Wizkid.
Next Rated
* Fido
* Fola
* Llona
* Mavo
* Shoday
The Next Rated category features five emerging artistes tipped for greater prominence in the Nigerian music industry.
Fido, Fola, Llona, Mavo and Shoday will compete for the coveted award, which has historically been associated with artistes on the verge of major breakthroughs.
With several leading artistes and emerging talents represented across the categories, the 2026 Headies Awards promises a competitive celebration of Nigerian music and creativity.
