Bimbo Ademoye has showered praise on fellow actor Kunle Remi following his memorable performance as Saro in Kunle Afolayan’s acclaimed movie Aníkúlápó.
The actress reacted after Remi shared a picture from the production on Instagram on Monday. Admiring his portrayal of the character, Ademoye described him as an “icon” and praised the actor for bringing Saro to life. She also added a playful request for money in her comment, showing the friendly relationship between the two actors.
Remi’s portrayal of Saro remains one of the major talking points surrounding the Aníkúlápó franchise. In the original 2022 film, Saro is introduced as a travelling cloth weaver whose life takes an extraordinary turn after he acquires a mystical power capable of bringing the dead back to life.
What initially appears to be an extraordinary gift eventually becomes a source of trouble for Saro. His growing dependence on the supernatural power leads him down a dangerous path, with his decisions ultimately contributing to his downfall.
His relationship with Arolake, played by Ademoye, is also an important part of the story, adding an emotional dimension to the supernatural narrative.
The success of Aníkúlápó eventually led to the expansion of the story into a Netflix series. Remi returned as Saro in Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, which premiered in March 2024.
The six-part series continued from the events of the original film and explored the consequences of Saro’s actions.
In the series, Saro is faced with a spiritual responsibility connected to those he previously resurrected. His task becomes part of a larger journey as he attempts to settle his supernatural debt.
Several members of the original cast returned for the first season, including Ademoye, Remi and Taiwo Hassan.
The franchise was later expanded with a second season, Aníkúlápó: The Ghoul Awakens, which premiered on Netflix on January 30.
The latest instalment took the story in a different direction, with Ademoye, Sola Sobowale and Taiwo Hassan among the returning actors.
New faces were also introduced, including Bukunmi Adeaga, popularly known as KieKie, Antar Laniyan, Saidi Balogun, Teniola Aladese, Fella Makafui and Okusaga Adeoluwa.
Remi did not feature in The Ghoul Awakens, making Ademoye’s recent public appreciation of his work in the franchise particularly notable.
The exchange between the two actors also highlights the strong professional relationship that has developed among members of the Aníkúlápó cast. Ademoye’s comments serve as a reminder of the impact Remi’s interpretation of Saro has had on audiences and on the wider success of the franchise.
