Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has opened up about her decision to remain celibate for the past three years, explaining how her growing Christian faith has influenced her approach to relationships.
Speaking during an interview with City FM, Adesanya said her relationship with God has become stronger and has gradually changed the way she views companionship and romantic relationships.
According to the actress, she has reached a stage where being single does not make her feel lonely or incomplete. She explained that she has friends around her whom she can call, talk to, spend time with or invite out for dinner, but she does not consider those friendships a search for romance.
Adesanya stressed that having people in her social circle does not mean she is interested in starting a relationship. She said she understands her own intentions and is comfortable with the boundaries she has established for herself.
The actress also revealed that she continues to receive romantic advances. However, she said she sometimes questions whether some of those making advances are genuinely serious or are simply making comments without intending to pursue anything meaningful.
She recalled that an interview she previously had with media personality Lege Miami unexpectedly generated more attention from potential suitors. Adesanya said several men began contacting her after the interview, including some people she had not heard from romantically in a long time.
The increased attention, she explained, also created some confusion because people are often unsure when she is being serious about relationships.
She noted that she is known to joke about such matters, making it difficult for some people to determine whether she would genuinely consider dating them.
Adesanya's comments show that her decision to remain single is not necessarily a result of a lack of social connections. Instead, she appears content with the relationships she has with friends and with the spiritual direction her life has taken.
Her experience also challenges the assumption that being without a romantic partner must automatically lead to loneliness. For Adesanya, companionship can exist through friendships, while her faith provides another important source of fulfilment.
The veteran actress's revelation therefore centres less on avoiding people and more on choosing what currently aligns with her values. She said her stronger Christian life has changed her priorities, making romantic involvement less important to her than it once was.
For now, Adesanya appears satisfied with her decision and has made it clear that she does not feel pressured to enter a relationship simply because people expect her to. Her comments offer a glimpse into a personal choice shaped by faith, friendships and a sense of contentment with her present lifestyle.
