Yoruba cinema has welcomed a new drama, Aláké Alágbo, an emotional story about love, betrayal, resilience and the unexpected path one woman takes to rebuild her life after her marriage falls apart.
The movie officially premiered on August 17, 2026, and is available exclusively on the ApataTV+ YouTube channel.
Produced by Omolara M. Suleiman Rasaq and directed by Afeez Abiodun Owo, popularly known as Seriki Olopolo, the film features a cast led by Ronke Odusanya, Zainab Bakare, Fisayo Abebi and Femi Adekanye.
A Marriage Turns Into A Nightmare
At the centre of Aláké Alágbo is Alake, a woman who deeply loves her husband and believes in the future of their marriage.
However, her hopes are gradually destroyed by her husband’s chronic promiscuity.
What begins as a marriage built around love eventually becomes a source of pain and disappointment, leaving Alake to deal with the consequences of her husband’s actions.
As the situation deteriorates, Alake finds herself in a position she never expected. With her marriage crumbling and her resources depleted, she is forced to reconsider everything she once believed about her future.
The devastating experience becomes the turning point of her life.
Forced To Embrace A Business She Hated
With virtually nothing left, Alake is forced to return to something she had always despised — her mother’s small traditional herb-selling business.
The dusty Alagbo business is far removed from the life Alake imagined for herself. Yet, circumstances leave her with little choice but to take over the family trade.
Rather than allowing shame or disappointment to consume her, she begins to work with what she has.
Alake starts selling traditional remedies to people within her community, gradually transforming the business into a source of livelihood and purpose.
From Herbal Remedies To Hope
As Alake becomes more involved in the business, her journey takes on a deeper meaning.
She is not simply selling traditional herbs. Her interactions with members of the community allow her to offer encouragement and hope to people dealing with their own struggles.
The business that once represented everything she wanted to avoid eventually becomes the very thing helping her rebuild her life.
Through her experiences, Alake discovers strength she may not have known she possessed.
Her journey also raises questions about whether a person’s circumstances can change when they choose to help others despite their own difficulties.
Can Good Deeds Change Her Fate?
One of the central themes of Aláké Alágbo is whether kindness and good deeds can ultimately transform a person’s destiny.
After suffering because of her husband’s behaviour, Alake is presented with the opportunity to create a different future for herself.
Her decision to embrace her mother’s business allows her to reconnect with her roots while finding a new sense of independence.
The story explores resilience and the ability to rebuild after devastating personal experiences.
It also highlights how something that initially appears insignificant can become an important source of purpose and survival.
Ronke Odusanya Leads The Cast
Ronke Odusanya leads the cast in the role of Alake, bringing the character’s emotional journey to the centre of the production.
She is joined by Zainab Bakare, Fisayo Abebi and Femi Adekanye, who contribute to the dramatic storyline surrounding Alake’s struggles and eventual transformation.
With Afeez Abiodun Owo directing and Omolara M. Suleiman Rasaq serving as producer, the movie combines traditional Yoruba storytelling with themes of marriage, betrayal, survival and personal redemption.
