Controversial Nigerian singer Portable, born Habeeb Okikiola, has revealed why he was unable to complete his tertiary education, saying financial hardship forced him to abandon his studies despite his determination to earn a degree.
The street-hop artiste made the disclosure in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, scheduled for release on YouTube on Monday. During the conversation, Portable reflected on his educational journey, his struggles with school fees and his desire to one day return to the classroom.
Although he has risen to prominence in Nigeria’s music industry, the singer said he still considers completing his education one of his personal goals.
Determined To Earn A Certificate
Portable explained that his music success has not diminished his desire to finish school, stressing that he still hopes to obtain an academic qualification.
According to him, dropping out of school was never part of his plan, but circumstances beyond his control made it impossible for him to continue.
The singer said he remains optimistic that he will eventually return to complete the programme he left behind, regardless of his current status as a successful entertainer.

Despite making efforts to continue his education, he said financial realities ultimately forced him to abandon his studies.
His Time At Kwara State Polytechnic
Portable also revealed that he gained admission into Kwara State Polytechnic through the institution’s indigene admission quota.
He studied Business Administration before eventually leaving the programme because of his financial difficulties.
Looking back on that period, the singer admitted that failing to complete his education remains one of the biggest disappointments of his life.
Although his music career later transformed his fortunes, he acknowledged that the decision to leave school is something he still wishes he could change.
Fame Changed His Family’s Story
Reflecting on his childhood, Portable said he was often regarded as academically weak by people around him.
However, he noted that life has taken an unexpected turn, with the same person once dismissed by others now carrying major financial responsibilities within his family.
The singer revealed that he currently supports his father and contributes significantly to the wellbeing of his relatives through the success he has achieved in music.
For him, this represents a reminder that people should not be judged solely by their academic performance or early struggles.

While emphasising that education remains important, Portable argued that completing higher education is not the only route to success.
According to him, individuals can achieve their dreams through different paths before eventually returning to complete their education.

At the same time, he maintained that earning an educational qualification remains worthwhile, explaining that he still intends to fulfil that ambition in the future.
