Popular Nollywood actor Odunlade Adekola has expressed his excitement after being unveiled as the lead character in The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, the highly anticipated film adaptation of Lola Shoneyin’s acclaimed novel.
The actor will portray Baba Segi, the wealthy and influential patriarch whose complicated family life drives the story.
The movie, produced by Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films, is expected to premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on December 4, 2026.
Directed by Daniel Oriahi, the project adapts one of Nigeria’s most celebrated contemporary novels into a feature film, bringing together an impressive cast of some of Nollywood’s biggest names.
Sharing the news with fans on Wednesday through his social media page, Odunlade described the opportunity as a special milestone in his acting career.
He revealed that stepping into the shoes of Baba Segi allowed him to explore a character who possesses authority, pride and emotional complexity, making the role one of the most rewarding experiences he has had on screen.
The actor also praised the cast and production team, expressing gratitude for the chance to collaborate with some of the industry's finest talents.
He encouraged movie lovers to anticipate the film's release later this year, promising an unforgettable cinematic experience.
Originally published in 2010, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives follows the life of Baba Segi, a successful businessman living in Ibadan with his wives and children.
The family’s seemingly stable household begins to unravel after the arrival of Bolanle, an educated young woman who becomes Baba Segi’s youngest wife.
Her entrance into the family gradually exposes secrets that have been hidden for years, changing the lives of everyone in the household.
The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring several renowned actors, including Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, Bimbo Ademoye, Omowunmi Dada, Shaffy Bello, Bisola Aiyeola, Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Daniel Etim Effiong, Bimbo Manuel and Femi Branch. Other notable stars attached to the production include Faithia Williams, Nancy Isime, Damilola Adegbite, Uzor Arukwe, Mike Ezuruonye, Blessing Jessica Obasi, Nkechi Blessing Sunday, Maleek of Ikorodu Bois and Mallu Marik.
The screenplay was adapted by Adze Ugah, while the production is a collaboration involving EbonyLife Films, Genesis Group, Nile Media Entertainment Group and Silverbird Group.
The project also marks EbonyLife Films' return to major theatrical releases after focusing largely on streaming productions in recent years.
