Nigerian filmmaker Chinney Love has stirred conversations on social media after sharing her thoughts about the personalities and behaviour of some firstborn children.
In a post on her Instagram page, the filmmaker argued that while many firstborns are known for being responsible and caring, not every eldest child fits that description.
According to her, society often celebrates the positive stories of firstborns while ignoring those whose actions have caused pain and division within their families.
Chinney stated that some firstborns can be manipulative, domineering and difficult to live with, insisting that there are many untold stories about such individuals.
She suggested that these experiences deserve to be explored in films, noting that storytelling should reflect the realities people face in everyday life.
The filmmaker wrote that audiences have seen enough productions portraying firstborns as heroes and protectors, adding that she hopes to see more stories that shed light on the darker side of family dynamics.
Her remarks quickly generated reactions online, with many social media users sharing personal experiences while others disagreed with her generalisation.
Alongside her comments, Chinney also used the opportunity to reach out to people living in Boston, Massachusetts, saying she was interested in connecting with residents of the city.
The latest post comes shortly after the filmmaker publicly praised veteran actress Uche Jombo for her performance in an upcoming movie.
Chinney described the actress as one of the finest performers of African mother roles, expressing admiration for her talent and consistency in the film industry.
Earlier, Chinney also spoke about the changing nature of Nigeria's YouTube movie space. She recalled that when she first joined the platform, filmmakers supported one another and celebrated each other's growth.
According to her, the atmosphere has become increasingly toxic over time, prompting her to take a break to focus on her wellbeing.
She further lamented that many actors now prefer to produce their own projects instead of collaborating with other filmmakers. In her view, the movie industry thrives on teamwork and mutual support, and greater cooperation among industry professionals would benefit Nollywood as a whole.
