The Nigerian Christian film community has been thrown into mourning following the death of actor Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, widely recognised for his role in the popular Mount Zion Drama Ministries series Abattoir. He was 38 years old.

News of his passing was made public by the Bowen University Alumni Association, which announced his death in a tribute shared on Instagram. The association remembered him as a valued member of its community and reflected on the impact he made through his involvement in drama and relationships built over the years.

Oyeyemi, who was fondly called Gomobzzzz by friends and colleagues, was also identified as a member of the university’s drama unit and part of the Viable Set.

In its statement, the alumni body expressed sadness over the loss and encouraged members to stand with the actor’s family during the difficult period.

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing and burial of one of our esteemed alumni, Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, Gomobzzzz a proud member of the Vlable Set and BBSF Drama Unit, who recently went to be with the Lord,” the association stated.

The message continued with a call for prayers and support.

“As the Bowen University Alumni Association, we humbly request that all alumni remember the family he left behind in their prayers, asking God to grant them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.

“We also encourage all alumni residing in Ibadan and its environs to be present at the burial as we come together to pay our final respects to our dear colleague and friend.”

The association concluded its tribute with prayers for divine comfort and eternal rest.

“Our prayer is that the Almighty God will console his family and loved ones, and grant Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi eternal rest. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Details released alongside the announcement showed that burial activities had already been arranged.

According to the programme shared publicly, a service of songs is scheduled to hold on July 2 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where friends, family members and associates are expected to gather to celebrate his life and pay final respects.

The burial activities are expected to conclude on July 3 with interment at the Garden of Saints Cemetery. Organisers also requested that attendees wear white as a symbol of honour and remembrance.

At the time of the announcement, no official cause of death had been disclosed.

Oyeyemi became known to many viewers through his appearance in Abattoir, one of Mount Zion Drama Ministries’ most widely watched productions. The series gained popularity for its faith-based storytelling, spiritual themes and emotionally driven narratives, attracting audiences across Nigeria and beyond.

His death adds to a period of repeated losses within the Abattoir and Mount Zion film community.

Earlier, actress Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe, who played Flora — Oyeyemi’s on-screen wife in Abattoir — passed away in February 2025 after complications connected to injuries sustained in a road accident.

The ministry had also mourned the death of veteran actor Moses Korede Are in 2024. He was known to viewers for portraying Baba Gbenro in the series.

With Oyeyemi’s passing, tributes continue to emerge from colleagues, alumni, friends and fans remembering him not only for his work on screen but also for the relationships and memories he created off camera.
