Former Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has made it clear that she is not interested in letting other people decide where she should live.
The beauty queen, whose residency status in South Africa remains the subject of an ongoing legal process, recently addressed those who have repeatedly insisted that she should pack up and relocate to Nigeria. Rather than ignore the comments, Adetshina responded in her own words, making it known that the decision about where she belongs is hers alone.
For months, discussions surrounding her future have continued as authorities in South Africa work through the issues connected to her residency. While the legal process is yet to be concluded, the former pageant queen has found herself constantly answering questions and dealing with opinions about what she should do next.
One of the biggest talking points has been a remark she made during a visit to Nigeria in 2024. At the time, many people took her statement about not returning to South Africa as a permanent decision. Adetshina has now clarified that this was never what she meant. According to her, she was simply referring to that particular period and not making a lifelong declaration about where she would live.
Even with that explanation, some people have continued urging her to leave South Africa for good. Responding to one fan who bluntly told her to "go home" to Nigeria, Adetshina questioned why such a decision should be forced on her.
She replied:
“I said I don’t want to… Ah ah, its it by force?”
Her response reflected the frustration of someone who has spent months dealing with public scrutiny while trying to navigate a personal and legal challenge.
She also appealed to those who continue to criticize her to consider what she has been going through instead of adding to her burden.
She said:
“Stop frustrating my life.”
Adetshina's residency has remained a contentious issue since questions were raised about how her South African citizenship documents were obtained. The controversy eventually led to her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa competition before she accepted an invitation to represent Nigeria at Miss Universe Nigeria, a contest she later won. Although she has since gone on to represent Nigeria on the international stage, her residency matter in South Africa has yet to be resolved, with the legal process still ongoing.
For now, Adetshina appears focused on allowing the legal process to take its course while asking for something simple in return the freedom to make her own choices without constant pressure from those who believe they know what is best for her.
