Reality TV personality Ike Onyema has shared a candid reflection on his time in the Big Brother Naija house, admitting that he walked into the competition without fully understanding how the game worked.
Speaking during his appearance on The Echo Podcast, the former housemate said it was only after leaving the show that he realised just how much strategy and emotion influenced the outcome. According to him, if he had understood the dynamics earlier, he would have approached the experience in a completely different way.
Looking back, Ike said he has one major regret from his time on the show. While he left with about ₦3 million, he believes he could have achieved far more if he had known what viewers connected with.
He explained that he never saw the show as something that rewarded emotional displays, adding that he now understands why some contestants were more expressive inside the house.
Reflecting on the experience, he said:
“I left the USA where I was born and moved to Nigeria cos there’s no freedom there. I only made 3 million from big brother, I regret not cry!ng in the house, if I knew what the show was about, I would have been cry!ng up and down just to win the money.”
Beyond talking about Big Brother Naija, Ike also opened up about his decision to leave the United States, where he was born, and settle permanently in Nigeria. He explained that although many people dream of relocating abroad, his own experience led him in the opposite direction.
According to him, he found a greater sense of freedom living and building his career in Nigeria than he did in the United States. While acknowledging that America offers many opportunities, he said the lifestyle and environment in Nigeria have suited him better.
His comments offered fans a rare glimpse into how he views both his personal journey and his reality television experience years after becoming a household name
Ike first gained widespread attention when he joined the Pepper Dem edition of Big Brother Naija in 2019. Since then, he has remained active in the entertainment industry, venturing into business, media and other projects while maintaining a strong presence in the public eye.
His latest remarks show that, despite the years that have passed since his time on the show, he still thinks about what could have been. For him, understanding the game from the beginning might have changed the outcome entirely, and he does not hide the fact that he wishes he had played it differently.
Even so, Ike's reflections were less about dwelling on missed opportunities and more about recognising the lessons he has taken from one of the biggest platforms of his career. Looking back, he believes experience has given him a clearer understanding of the competition and the choices he would make if given another chance.
