Fashion designer Veekee James has opened up about the values that guide her business, making it clear that mutual respect is something she refuses to compromise on, regardless of how famous a potential client may be.

Speaking during an interview, she was asked if there had ever been a celebrity she would not want to dress again because of the way the person spoke to her. Rather than mention any names, Veekee explained that she is intentional about the people she chooses to work with from the very beginning, which helps her avoid those kinds of situations.

According to the designer, she does not see every celebrity as a client she must have. Instead, she believes every working relationship should begin with respect for both the individual and the brand she has spent years building.

"I choose my clients. If I can’t tolerate your energy, then I can’t dress you,” she said.

She explained that a person's attitude during their first conversations with her is often enough to determine whether they will work together. For Veekee, talent and popularity are not enough if the interaction leaves her feeling that her work is not being appreciated.

She continued, "If you are a celebrity and you are communicating to me in a way that shows you don't value my brand, acting like you are doing me a favour, then that's the end of communication, we won't talk beyond that stage, you can't see yourself in Veekee James's dress, so I can't remember any celebrity in such situation."

Her comments suggest that she would rather walk away from a potential collaboration than accept treatment she considers disrespectful. She believes that protecting the integrity of her brand is more important than securing another high-profile client.

Veekee also pointed out that this approach has worked well for her over the years. Because she carefully considers who she works with before any agreement is reached, she cannot recall having a celebrity client she later wished she had turned down.

The designer's remarks offer a glimpse into the standards she has set for her business. While many people assume celebrities have unlimited influence when seeking the services of top designers, Veekee made it clear that the relationship has to be built on mutual respect from both sides.

For her, the decision to create a custom outfit goes beyond fashion. It starts with how people communicate and whether they acknowledge the value of the brand she represents. If that respect is missing from the outset, she says the conversation simply ends there.

Her position reflects the importance she places on professionalism and healthy working relationships, maintaining that no opportunity is worth accepting if it begins with a lack of respect.
