Veteran Nollywood actor Yomi Olorunlaiye has opened up about some of the most frightening moments of his acting career, revealing how he narrowly escaped serious harm during separate incidents while filming in different parts of Nigeria.
The actor shared the experiences during a recent interview, where he reflected on the dangers that actors and film crews sometimes face while working on location. According to him, what should have been ordinary movie productions unexpectedly turned into life-threatening situations that left lasting memories on everyone involved.
Olorunlaiye disclosed that one of the most disturbing incidents occurred during a movie shoot in Osun State when armed thugs allegedly stormed a production set and attacked cast and crew members.
Recalling the incident, the actor said the production team had been filming in the area when violence suddenly erupted, throwing the entire location into chaos.
He explained that several actors were present during the attack, including renowned Nollywood stars Yomi Fash-Lanso and Kunle Afod.
According to Olorunlaiye, the attackers reportedly assaulted members of the production team with dangerous weapons, leaving some individuals injured.
The actor described the scene as terrifying, saying the confrontation quickly escalated beyond what anyone expected.
“They attacked us in Ikire. It happened in Ejigbo. They really cut us. This one I am talking about, Uncle Yomi Fash was involved. Brother Kunle Afod was involved. Osanle, the singer, was involved. I think Lala, too, was there,” he recalled.
The actor further revealed that the matter became so serious that it eventually led to legal action.
According to him, the dispute was taken to court, where proceedings reportedly lasted for several months before the issue was resolved.
“It was a terrible thing that we went to court for almost three months. It was a great fight. They cut us significantly. It became a serious commotion,” he said.
Although the exact cause of the confrontation was not disclosed, Olorunlaiye’s account highlighted the risks that can accompany film productions, especially when shooting in unfamiliar locations.
The actor noted that the incident remains one of the most traumatic experiences of his career and served as a reminder that actors often face challenges beyond performing before the camera.
However, the Osun incident was not the only frightening experience he encountered.
Olorunlaiye also recounted another tense moment during a separate production in Ikorodu, Lagos State, while filming scenes centered around cultism.
According to him, the movie involved initiation and confraternity-related scenes, requiring actors to wear outfits associated with certain groups.
He explained that before filming began, he had expressed concerns about the timing of the production because it coincided with a period when some real-life cult groups were reportedly holding activities.
The actor said he advised members of the production team to consider relocating the shoot to avoid potential misunderstandings.
Despite the warning, filming continued at the chosen location.
According to Olorunlaiye, the crew soon noticed unfamiliar individuals arriving at the scene in small groups.
The appearance of the men immediately raised concerns because of the nature of the movie being filmed.
“One happen at Ikorodu. We were shooting cultism scene. I told them in the night when we went to do the initiation in the film. I told them to go somewhere else and shoot. I told them the date we were going and the colour we wore was related to the cult group,” he explained.
“They came in twos and threes. We had to talk.”
Fortunately, the situation did not escalate into violence, and the matter was reportedly resolved through dialogue.
Reflecting on both experiences, Olorunlaiye said they taught him valuable lessons about safety and preparation during movie productions.
He emphasized the importance of proper planning, community engagement, and security measures when filming sensitive storylines or working in unfamiliar environments.
The actor noted that while filmmaking remains his passion, incidents like these serve as reminders that entertainment professionals often encounter risks that audiences rarely see behind the scenes.
Despite the frightening experiences, Olorunlaiye remains committed to his craft and continues to play active roles in Nollywood productions, drawing from decades of experience in the industry.
