Veteran Nollywood comic actor Baba Elesho has stirred conversation after revealing that his wife plays a central leadership role in his home, describing her as the “head of the family” during a recent interview.
The actor made the statement while sharing a personal story about a challenging family situation involving his mother and how decisions within his household are handled with his wife’s input.
According to him, the incident began when he went to check on his mother, who was staying at his younger sibling’s residence.
He explained that she was uncomfortable with her living arrangement and expressed strong dissatisfaction, insisting she would rather be “thrown into the sea” than remain in that environment.
Baba Elesho recounted that upon returning home, he went straight to his wife to inform her about the situation before taking any further steps. He said he deliberately involved her in the discussion because of the importance of her opinion in family matters.
He explained that he met his wife upstairs, greeted her respectfully, and informed her that there was an urgent family issue involving his mother.
After narrating the situation to her, he said his wife asked questions to understand the circumstances before he proceeded with any action.
The actor emphasized that his household operates on mutual respect, communication, and shared decision-making. He added that while he remains the husband, his wife’s perspective carries significant weight in how the home is managed.
He stated that in his view, a stable home requires balance, and his wife’s role in maintaining that balance is crucial.
According to him, recognising her as the “head of the family” is not about undermining his position, but about acknowledging her influence in keeping the home running smoothly.
Baba Elesho, known for his long-standing career in Yoruba Nollywood comedy, has built a reputation for his humorous roles and strong presence in the Nigerian film industry over several decades.
He has featured in several notable productions, including the classic Owo Blow (1996), directed by Tade Ogidan, where he played a supporting role.
Over the years, he has also appeared in films such as Ayitale (2013), Anikulapo (2022), Sibe (2023), Malaika (2023), and Blacksmith: Alagbede (2024), among others.
His latest comments have sparked discussions among fans and social media users, with many weighing in on modern marriage dynamics and shifting roles within Nigerian households.
While some viewers praised his openness and expressed admiration for the respect he shows his wife, others debated the implications of his statement, especially within traditional expectations of family structure.
Regardless of the differing opinions, Baba Elesho’s remarks have once again placed him at the centre of public attention, not for his comedic roles this time, but for his candid reflection on family life and marriage.
