Nigerian social commentator and activist VeryDarkMan has called for a nationwide show of solidarity following the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in Oyo State, urging Nigerians not to allow the incident fade from public attention.
The activist, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, made the appeal in a viral video that has since generated widespread reactions across social media platforms. Speaking passionately about the situation, he expressed concern over what he described as a recurring pattern in Nigeria, where major tragedies dominate public discussion for a short period before people move on to other issues.
According to him, the tendency to quickly forget painful national events has become one of the country’s biggest weaknesses. He argued that sustained public pressure is often necessary to ensure that authorities remain focused on securing justice and resolving crises affecting citizens.
In the video, VeryDarkMan said many Nigerians mistakenly celebrate their ability to move on from difficult situations, when in reality such behaviour often allows important issues to be forgotten without meaningful action being taken.
“Nigerians are cursed with one thing, they think it’s a blessing but it’s a curse, they know how to move on quickly,” he said.
The activist insisted that the abduction of innocent pupils and teachers should not be treated as just another news cycle. Instead, he called for a coordinated response that would keep public attention fixed on the plight of those still being held captive.
VeryDarkMan specifically appealed to teachers across Nigeria to stand in solidarity with their colleagues who were abducted during the incident. He urged educators to temporarily withdraw their services until efforts are intensified to secure the release of the victims.
Addressing teachers directly, he said:
“However, on this issue on ground, we are not going to move on until they are released. As a public school teacher, this is a time to show solidarity with the teachers in captivity by not going to work.”
The social commentator further called on parents to support the proposed action by keeping their children away from school as a form of peaceful protest. According to him, such a move would demonstrate national concern for the children currently being held by their abductors and send a strong message to authorities.
“Starting from tomorrow, Monday 1st of June 2026, until those in captivity are released. Please, parents, stop your children from going to school in solidarity with the little kids that are in captivity,” he added.
His comments come amid growing outrage over the security situation in parts of the country, particularly following reports of attacks, kidnappings, and violent incidents affecting schools and rural communities.
The abduction in Oyo State has attracted widespread condemnation from citizens, public figures, and advocacy groups, many of whom have called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen measures to protect schools.
VeryDarkMan’s call for a nationwide shutdown of educational activities has sparked mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians have praised his stance and described it as a necessary response to the ongoing insecurity, others have questioned whether a school boycott would be effective or practical.
Supporters argue that the proposal could help maintain public attention on the victims and increase pressure on authorities to act swiftly. Critics, however, contend that shutting down schools across the country could disrupt learning without necessarily guaranteeing the release of those in captivity.
Despite differing opinions, the activist remains firm in his position that the issue should not be forgotten. He stressed that the lives of the abducted teachers and pupils matter and urged Nigerians to continue demanding urgent action until every victim is safely reunited with their families.
The call has added another voice to the growing national conversation about security, public accountability, and the protection of children and educators across Nigeria.
