Nigerian social media personality and logistics manager to Afrobeats superstar Davido, Israel Afeare, has released the official funeral programme for his late father, Eric Afeare, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 71.
The announcement comes months after the death of the retired police officer, whose passing was met with an outpouring of condolences from friends, family members, and well-wishers across the country.
According to details contained in the funeral arrangements, burial activities for the late patriarch will take place in different locations across Edo State, including Owan East Local Government Area and Benin City.
The programme outlines a series of events designed to celebrate the life and legacy of Eric Afeare, who was widely respected within his community and among those who knew him during his years of public service.
Funeral activities are scheduled to commence on Thursday, July 9, 2026, when the remains of the deceased will be moved from Igue Mortuary. The body will then be transported to his residence located at Oguedo Quarters, Ievbu-Ake, where family members, friends, neighbours, and associates are expected to gather for a social wake.
The following day, Friday, July 10, a funeral service will be held at the family compound in Oguedo Quarters, Ievbu-Ake, Owan East Local Government Area. The service is expected to begin at 10 a.m., after which the late Eric Afeare will be laid to rest.
Family members say the ceremony will provide an opportunity for loved ones to pay their final respects and celebrate the life of a man they describe as devoted to his family and community.
The burial programme will continue on Saturday, July 11, with another wake scheduled to take place at the family residence from 2 p.m. The event is expected to bring together relatives, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who wish to honour the memory of the deceased.
A thanksgiving service will then be held on Sunday, July 12, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ake. The church service is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will focus on celebrating the life, impact, and contributions of the late Eric Afeare.
The final event listed in the burial programme is a reception for guests, which will take place on Saturday, July 19, at Crown Heart Pavilion, Country Road, Benin City. The reception is expected to begin at noon and serve as a gathering point for friends and associates who wish to support the family during the mourning period.
Eric Afeare reportedly died on March 2, 2026, at a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a brief illness. Before his retirement, he served in the Nigeria Police Force and attained the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Following the news of his death, Israel DMW paid an emotional tribute to his father, describing him as the foundation of the family and a man whose guidance helped keep the family united over the years.
“It is sad losing my father at this time. We still need him with us, but God knows better,” Israel said while mourning his loss.
Reflecting on his father’s influence, he added, “He was my pillar of strength, and he was instrumental in making the family an indivisible unit.”
The late Eric Afeare is survived by two wives, eight children, grandchildren, and several extended family members.
As preparations continue for the burial ceremonies, family members and friends have continued to remember him as a disciplined officer, devoted father, and respected community figure whose legacy will endure through the lives he touched.
