Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan has reacted strongly after an Instagram user left a critical comment under his post about the ongoing Service of Songs for late actor Alexx Ekubo.

Duncan had shared moments from the memorial gathering in Lagos, where family members, friends and colleagues continue to honour the life and legacy of the late screen star. The post, which was intended to reflect a period of mourning and remembrance, later attracted backlash from a user who questioned the sincerity of public tributes being shared online.

The commenter wrote:
"All these show off so call love, if they ask one of you to d!e in place of him now......Voicemail."
Duncan immediately responded under the post, shutting down the remark in strong terms:
"Don't be daft! You already look it..Don't act it publicly."

He later added another response expressing frustration over the tone of the comment, writing:

"This aggravate me..This is what happens when you put smart phones in the hands of individuals who were not raised right."

The exchange comes as the Nigerian entertainment industry continues to mourn Alexx Ekubo, whose passing on May 11, 2026, sent shockwaves across Nollywood and beyond. The actor, known for his work in romantic and contemporary Nigerian films, reportedly died after a battle with kidney-related complications, according to earlier family-linked reports and media accounts.

Ekubo, born Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke in 1986, rose to fame after finishing as first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria competition, a platform that helped launch his career in modelling and acting. He later transitioned fully into Nollywood, where he built a strong reputation as a leading man in romantic dramas and mainstream film productions. Over the years, he became one of the most recognisable faces in the industry, admired for his screen presence and versatility.

His death triggered widespread tributes from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom described him as a talented performer whose contribution to Nigerian film helped shape a generation of romantic storytelling.

As part of arrangements to honour his memory, a Service of Songs is currently being held in Lagos. The event has drawn emotional tributes, prayers and musical renditions in celebration of his life and career, with loved ones reflecting on his journey, achievements and personal impact.

The ongoing memorial forms part of a series of planned activities by his family to give him a befitting farewell, as Nollywood continues to grapple with the loss of one of its familiar faces.
