Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe recently welcomed a number of distinguished guests to a private screening of her upcoming movie, Iwe Ala (An Ojude Oba Story), ahead of its nationwide cinema release.
Among those in attendance were former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and renowned businessman Farooq Oreagba, both of whom joined the actress for the special event.
The gathering served as an opportunity to introduce selected guests to the highly anticipated film, which draws inspiration from one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural festivals.
Mercy Aigbe later shared moments from the occasion on social media, posting a video that captured her arrival alongside Obasanjo and Oreagba. The trio appeared in high spirits as they danced and interacted with guests before the screening commenced.
Expressing her excitement, the actress revealed that the event was organised for the former president, some of his associates and members of his executive team.
She also used the opportunity to remind fans that Iwe Ala will make its official debut in cinemas across Nigeria on June 12, 2026.
The forthcoming movie is rooted in the rich traditions of the Ojude Oba festival, a cultural celebration held annually in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Through the film, Aigbe aims to showcase the beauty, heritage and values associated with the event, which has become a major attraction for both Nigerians and international visitors.
Interest in the movie has grown significantly following the conclusion of the 2026 Ojude Oba festival. The event attracted thousands of participants, including tourists, community leaders, dignitaries and cultural enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the customs of the Ijebu people.
This year's festival held special significance as it was the first edition since the passing of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
The celebration was organised under the theme, "Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona," with participants honouring the monarch's contributions to the development and preservation of Ijebu culture.
One of the highlights of the annual festival remains the colourful display of traditional fashion, horse-riding processions and the participation of various age-grade groups known as Regberegbe.
These features have helped transform Ojude Oba into one of the country's most recognised cultural events.
By centering her latest project on the festival, Mercy Aigbe continues her effort to tell stories that reflect Nigeria's cultural identity and traditions.
The actress, who has established herself as one of Nollywood's leading filmmakers, is optimistic that the movie will resonate with audiences when it arrives in cinemas later this month.
With anticipation building ahead of its release, Iwe Ala (An Ojude Oba Story) is expected to attract movie lovers eager to experience a cinematic portrayal of one of Nigeria's most iconic cultural celebrations.
