Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared a deeply reflective message on life, death, and human priorities following the burial of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo.
Taking to his Instagram page, the comedian wrote an emotional note highlighting how quickly life returned to normal activities immediately after the final rites of the late actor were concluded in Abia State.
According to AY, the experience served as a painful but important reminder that life does not pause for anyone, regardless of how loved, celebrated, or influential they may be during their lifetime.
He noted that shortly after Alex Ekubo was laid to rest on Thursday, everyday life resumed almost instantly. People returned to their routines, flights were caught, markets reopened, schools resumed activities, and social events continued as though nothing had happened.
In his words, the world kept moving without hesitation, reinforcing the reality that human existence is temporary and fragile.
AY explained that while grief was still fresh for family, friends, and colleagues who attended the burial, the rest of the world had already moved on to other concerns. He pointed out that football matches continued, traffic returned to the roads, business activities resumed, and celebrations such as birthdays and weddings were still being planned.
He used the observation to stress that death ultimately places everyone on the same level, regardless of fame, wealth, or social influence.
The comedian further reflected that the most important lesson from such moments is not about how long a person lives, but how meaningful their life is and how they impact others while they are still alive.
He encouraged people to focus more on love, forgiveness, kindness, and generosity, rather than spending too much time on conflict, pride, or resentment.
AY wrote that the memory of a person should not only be about their achievements, but also about the emotional footprint they leave behind in the hearts of others. He added that true legacy is measured by how deeply one is loved and remembered after death.
He also reminded his followers that one day, everyone will eventually experience the same reality, where life continues even after they are gone. However, what will remain is the impact they made while they were alive.
The comedian’s message has since resonated with many social media users, who described it as a sobering reflection on mortality and the importance of living intentionally.
Alex Ekubo, who passed away on May 11, 2026, was recently laid to rest after a series of funeral activities held in Lagos and his hometown in Abia State. His death had sparked widespread tributes across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with colleagues describing him as talented, humble, and impactful.
AY concluded his message by urging people to make every moment count, emphasizing that life is fleeting and should be lived with purpose, love, and gratitude.
He ended with a farewell message to the late actor, writing simply: “Rest in peace, Alex.”
