Livinus Nwosu, a social media commentator known for his association with online activist VeryDarkMan, has shared details of his experience after regaining his freedom from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Speaking in a video posted online, Nwosu recounted events surrounding his detention and the questioning he said he underwent while in custody.
According to him, security operatives sought information regarding certain civic awareness activities, particularly those connected to voter registration campaigns and public enlightenment efforts.
Nwosu claimed that investigators were interested in understanding the individuals and groups involved in promoting voter participation and civic engagement.
During the interrogation process, he alleged that questions were raised about people believed to be supporting such initiatives.
The social media personality further stated that names of several individuals surfaced during discussions with security officials. Among those he mentioned was popular blogger and media personality Tunde Ednut.
Nwosu suggested that authorities appeared interested in identifying the sponsors and organisers behind awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging Nigerians to obtain their voter cards and participate in the democratic process.
Following his release, Nwosu said he began receiving messages that left him concerned about his future. According to him, some of the communications implied that security agencies remained interested in his activities and public commentary.
He also recounted an encounter with a woman he said he met during his time at the DSS facility. According to Nwosu, the woman warned him about the possible consequences of continuing to speak publicly about issues he considers important.
Sharing the alleged warning, Nwosu claimed the woman advised him to exercise caution, suggesting that future encounters with security authorities might be more difficult if he continued to draw attention to matters he believes deserve public discussion.
Despite the experience, Nwosu indicated that he has no plans to remain silent. He suggested that his commitment to speaking on issues affecting society remains unchanged, even though he acknowledges the challenges that may come with such a decision.
His comments have generated conversations across social media platforms, where supporters and critics alike have reacted to his account of events.
While some users expressed concern over his claims and called for greater protection of civil liberties, others urged caution and emphasized the importance of allowing security agencies to carry out their responsibilities within the bounds of the law.
The incident has also renewed discussions about freedom of expression, civic engagement, and the relationship between citizens and security institutions in Nigeria. Public reactions continue to vary, with many awaiting further clarification regarding the circumstances surrounding his detention.
As conversations continue online, Nwosu's experience has become another topic in the broader debate about activism, public advocacy, and the role social media personalities play in shaping public opinion.
For now, the commentator remains free and vocal, maintaining that he will continue to express his views despite the concerns and warnings he says he encountered during and after his detention.
