Nigerian entertainer and social commentator Charly Boy has opened up about difficult chapters from his early years, revealing that he was involved in criminal activities while living in the United States and admitting that many of his choices at the time were reckless.
The veteran entertainer made the disclosure during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television on Friday, where he reflected on his personal journey and spoke candidly about experiences that shaped his outlook on life.
Known for his outspoken personality and unconventional public image, Charly Boy used the interview to discuss moments from his past that he says contributed to his personal growth and understanding of purpose.
Speaking openly, he admitted that he made several decisions in his younger years that he now considers serious mistakes.
According to him, those experiences formed part of a turbulent period marked by risky behaviour and actions he no longer looks back on with pride.
“I’ve made mistakes in my life. I’ve been a thief. I’ve done very risky things. I’ve done very stupid things, very foolish things. In fact, I have no business being here with you tonight, but I guess there’s a purpose for my life,” he said.
Charly Boy’s remarks reflected a willingness to revisit parts of his life that public figures do not always discuss openly.
He suggested that acknowledging past errors is an important part of understanding personal transformation and growth.
During the conversation, the entertainer went further by revealing that while living in the United States in his twenties, he became involved in financial-related criminal activity.
Without going into extensive detail about specific incidents, he described the period as one marked by poor judgment and immaturity.
“I was doing white-collar crime when I was in America. I was about 25 years old. I was doing a lot of stupid stuff. That’s why I say I’ve been there,” he added.
His comments offered insight into a period of life he said contributed to his understanding of consequences and self-reflection.
According to Charly Boy, one of the reasons he chose to speak publicly about these experiences was because he did not want to present an incomplete version of his story.
He explained that he documented aspects of those years in his memoir as part of a broader effort to tell his life story honestly.
Rather than hiding uncomfortable experiences, he said he wanted readers and followers to understand the full journey that eventually shaped the person he became.
For Charly Boy, that journey included moments of rebellion, mistakes, personal struggle and eventual self-discovery.
Throughout his public life, Charly Boy has often presented himself as someone willing to challenge conventions and speak openly about social and personal issues.
His latest comments continue that pattern by revisiting difficult moments and presenting them as lessons rather than achievements.
The entertainer suggested that reflecting on those periods allows him to better appreciate growth and recognise how different experiences influenced later decisions.
Although his remarks focused heavily on regret and accountability, they also highlighted the idea that people can evolve beyond difficult chapters in their lives.
By sharing his experiences publicly, Charly Boy said he hopes to tell his story fully rather than only presenting the successful or comfortable moments.
