Tamunosoye Karibi George has been crowned Miss World Nigeria 2026 after an impressive performance at the national pageant's grand finale held in Lagos.

Representing Bayelsa State, the 26-year-old beauty queen outshined contestants from across the country to secure the coveted title during the event hosted at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.

The competition, organised by the Silverbird Group, brought together some of Nigeria's brightest young women under the theme, "Pride, Power, and Purpose."

The glamorous event marked the conclusion of a week-long programme that tested contestants beyond physical appearance.

Participants underwent leadership workshops, interviews, advocacy presentations, and community service engagements designed to evaluate their intelligence, social impact, and ability to inspire positive change.

Tamunosoye's victory sees her take over from the outgoing queen, Joy Mojisola Raimi, who held the title in 2025.

Raimi enjoyed a successful outing at the 72nd Miss World competition in India, where she secured a place among the Top 20 contestants globally and ranked among Africa's top five representatives.

For Tamunosoye, the latest achievement is another milestone in a growing pageantry career. She previously gained international recognition in 2024 when she won the Miss Africa International crown in Accra, Ghana, while representing Nigeria.

Her success on both local and international stages has strengthened her reputation as one of the country's leading beauty queens.

During the final stages of the competition, Tamunosoye impressed judges with her confidence, eloquence, and vision.

Her response during the question-and-answer session particularly stood out, as she described success as the ability to positively impact people and leave a meaningful legacy through one's achievements and actions.

Speaking about the pageant's mission, Silverbird Group President and National Director of Miss World Nigeria, Guy Murray-Bruce, reiterated the organisation's commitment to empowering young women.

He explained that the competition places significant emphasis on leadership, advocacy, character, and community service, reflecting the evolving standards of modern beauty pageants.

Miss Anambra secured the position of first runner-up, while Miss Edo finished as second runner-up after also delivering strong performances throughout the competition.

As the newly crowned Miss World Nigeria, Tamunosoye now faces the challenge of representing the country at the 75th Miss World Festival.

The international event is scheduled to take place in Vietnam between August 9 and September 5, 2026, with contestants from around the world competing for the prestigious global crown.

Nigeria has enjoyed notable success at the Miss World competition over the years, most memorably in 2001 when Agbani Darego became the first Black African woman to win the Miss World title.

Her historic triumph remains a source of pride and inspiration for many aspiring beauty queens across the continent.

With her experience, confidence, and commitment to social impact, Tamunosoye George will be hoping to continue that proud legacy and make Nigeria proud on the world stage later this year.
