Iyabo Ojo has once again voiced strong concerns about the growing insecurity across Nigeria, especially the rising wave of kidnappings and violent attacks affecting several communities.
In a detailed statement shared publicly, the actress expressed disappointment over what she described as a continued lack of effective action despite repeated assurances from authorities. She noted that while officials have made promises regarding rescue operations and security responses, many Nigerians are still waiting to see real and lasting results on the ground.
According to her, the situation has reached a point where citizens can no longer afford silence or indifference. She warned that many people living in urban areas often feel insulated from the crisis, believing it is limited to remote villages, but stressed that insecurity is steadily moving closer to more populated regions.
She also reacted to reports that military authorities had assured the public of efforts to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren. While she expressed hope that the children would return safely, she questioned the consistency and effectiveness of the ongoing security approach.
In her words:
“I know some of you will be shocked to see me speak, even though I have said I was not going to speak again about anything that concerns Nigerians. But I have to speak this time because Nigeria is my home and where I belong, even though I travel the world.
The Head of the military has come out to say and guarantee that the abducted children will be released. I hope they are released safe and sound. But the issue is: for how long are we going to keep quiet and continue like this?
We are not angry enough. Most of us feel very relaxed, thinking that because we live in Lagos and other well-secured places, we are safe. Unfortunately, it is already at our doorstep. Oyo is just a stone’s throw away from us.
We make so much noise on social media but lack action. This is not about APC or Tinubu not doing well it is about us, the citizens, not being ready. We are not angry enough. Everyone is scared and afraid to speak out.
We have the military whose sole aim is to protect the lives and properties of citizens, but what exactly are they doing? It feels like nothing is being done. All we hear is, ‘We are working on it.’ Working on what exactly, when these people are destroying Nigeria?.
I don’t want to believe that these bandits are more in number than the military personnel we have in Nigeria. What is going on? Are these bandits more armed than the military? If the Nigerian military cannot handle it, why can’t the government seek international help?.
If the government can beg and borrow loans from other countries, why can’t they seek help for security assistance to eradicate these demons tormenting our country?.
These bandits even have the effrontery to behead a teacher and post the video online, yet we cannot see Nigerian teachers rise up for a peaceful protest.
A lot of us, including those in Lagos and the diaspora, still have family members in the villages. If it can reach the villages and move to the towns, it will definitely reach the cities.
The youths are online fighting over irrelevant matters, arguing about who is superior, while ignoring insecurity.
For everyone with a platform and followers, use even that one follower to speak out. Cry out until you are heard.
I am not interested in any election. Even those presidential aspirants claiming they can do better than Tinubu, going from school to school to eat with students to show how close they are to the people I am not impressed. Because at the end of the day, you will have no land to govern if bandits take over.
Tinubu cannot do it alone, but he must speak out. He delegates people to act let them give account. Where is the empathy? I saw where the Oyo State governor sat and gave updates on what they are planning. We are not interested in your processes.
Deploy the military into the bushes, rescue those children, and eradicate these d£mons.
We want physical evidence not noise and Empty promises.”
She further emphasized that Nigerians must move beyond online discussions and demand visible action, stressing that insecurity should be treated as an urgent national concern affecting everyone, regardless of location or status.
